My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Loving and loyal!

My name is Thing 2, and I’m a neutered 11-month-old Labrador Retriever mix, weighing in at 48 pounds.   I’m part of the Cat in the Hat litter that was rescued in Mexico last year during the Thanksgiving holiday, and I’m ready to put that all behind me and find a loving furever home!

I am a loving and loyal boy once you’ve earned my trust. Being naturally cautious, it can take some time to warm up to new people; but once I do, I love hard! My favorite activities include playing with doggie friends, being near and cuddling with my humans, going to doggy daycare, sunbathing in the backyard, and chasing lizards.

After I was scooped up by TAP, I had a bit of a rough go for a couple of months trying to adjust to all the change. I’ve since developed some nervousness around new people and environments and am on Prozac (40 mg once daily) to manage my high anxiety. Despite this, though, I’ve worked hard on my training. I’ve already mastered crate-training, potty-training, and leash-training. I’m extremely food motivated, too, and will do almost anything for a tasty treat, which makes training and meeting new people a much easier experience for me.

My ideal home would be with an owner who’s had experience with fearful and anxious dogs, as I’m definitely not suitable for first-time dog owners. I’d also thrive in a home with a confident and friendly doggie sibling who could help me gain my confidence and overcome my trust issues. No kitties or children, please, but would appreciate lots of love and patience so that I can become the goodest boy I can be!

My adoption fee is $450 and that includes spaying/neutering, shots, and microchip.  If you want to take me home, please fill out the form on the website here: https://theanimalpad.org/adoption-application/.

Their adoption process

Additional adoption info

We prioritize local San Diego applicants. We do not provide transport of dogs to other states, and don't allow the dogs to fly in the cargo of the plane.
Our adoption process from start to finish, involves 3 standard forms, and 2 situational.
All potential applicants must be capable of providing their adopted pet with routine and emergency veterinary care (yearly health checks, keeping vaccinations current, heartworm/flea preventatives, and immediate care in the event the animal is sick or injured). They are required to license their pet, and keep an identification tag on their pet at all times.
All applicants must agree to a home check, and provide us with a veterinary reference, or personal references if you're a first-time pet owner. Our home checks are not to invade the privacy of the applicants, we do this to ensure the pet is going into a safe home. We do not discriminate against non-homeowners, or those living in apartments, condos, or otherwise.
Our adoption fees vary from $150-1000.
Applicants must agree in writing that if for any reason they are unable to keep or care for their pet, the pet will be surrendered back to our rescue and not re-homed, turned over to a shelter, pound, rescue, new owner, sold, etc.

More about this rescue

Overview
The Animal Pad is a nonprofit, all-breed dog rescue devoted to saving the lives of dogs facing euthanasia at high kill animal shelters and off the streets of Mexico. We rescue, rehabilitate, and re-home locally.

We are dedicated to animal advocacy, and educating dog owners on the importance of spaying and neutering their pets. We are a foster based rescue, and rely heavily on the kindness and generosity of the amazing people who make donations toward the rescue and care of the dogs we save.

We are always looking for adopters, fosters, donations, volunteers, etc.. Please let us know if you would like to get involved by contacting us at one of the email addresses found below.
