Allegiant stands as a proud young kitten, steadfast and true, with a heart as bold as his soft grey and white coat. At 3-4 months old, he’s as brave as they come, marching confidently into every new friendship with his tail high, ready to bring joy to kids, cats, dogs, and any comrade lucky enough to cross his path. Allegiant’s loyalty is matched only by his zest for fun, greeting every play session with an enthusiasm that rallies the whole room. Whether he’s bounding after a feather toy or curling up close after a day of adventure, Allegiant’s allegiance is unwavering—he’s here to befriend, to brighten, and to bring out the best in everyone around him. Allegiant does have some chronic, off again/off again ocular discharge that seems to flare with stress.
Meet and greet/adoption appointments are highly recommended to ensure the animal you are interested in is currently at the shelter. Please call or e-mail the shelter to set up an appointment to meet and adopt!

Our kitten/cat adoption fees vary on age, special needs, lonely heart status (cats that have been with us 6+ months), and for our senior to seniors program. Our adoption fees include the following: all of our cats/kittens are current on vaccinations (FVRCP series and Rabies if over 3 months of age) at the point of adoption, dewormed, tested for Feline Leukemia (FeLV) and Feline Immunodeficiency Virus (FIV), treated for fleas/ticks/earmites in addition to being spayed or neutered once the cat reaches 2 lbs in weight. All cats and kittens adopted from the shelter are microchipped. Adoption fees may vary in special circumstances.
Because we are on a busy street, we require that all cats leaving the shelter be in a carrier. All pets are up for adoption until an approved application is processed and their adoption fee is paid.

BRHS formed in 1998 to help the Brookings Animal Control Department find homes for stray animals.The unclaimed, homeless cats and dogs from Animal Control are BRHS' priority. Those unclaimed are transferred to BRHS where they get the necessary wellness care and are spayed/neutered. Animal Control brings any sick or injured animals to BRHS for immediate care.
In 2013 BRHS was very fortunate to move into its present location across from the Brookings Airport. The building was built specifically to house animals and provides a separate dog kennel area, rooms to house cats, natural lighting, and proper ventilation throughout the whole facility. There are also medical isolation, quarantine, treatment, and surgery rooms.
BRHS has been recognized for and has won multiple awards from both city and national organizations, including several Dog Rescue Awards and a nomination for the Governor’s Award.
