My personality

My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Meet Curtis, this very handsome 4 year old Retriever was an owner surrendered along with several other dogs in the household due to them not being able to care for them anymore.

Sweet Curtis is a shy boy who lacks confidence in himself. Curtis has spent most of his life being an outdoor dog and being a good mentor to the younger dogs at the house.

Curtis blossoms when he is around other dogs and you can see him relax and come out of his shell. He will need a dog friend in the home to help him be confident and learn to trust how amazing being part of a loving home can be! Curtis may be best in a home with no cats as he seems a bit too interested in them!

Curtis will need time to decompress and will need patience as he settles into the day to day household routine and potty schedules. Curtis did previously live and interact with children of various ages.

Curtis is neutered, we have microchipped and updated all vaccines including rabies. He has been given a dewormer and started on flea/tick prevention, heartworm tested (NEGATIVE) and given heartworm prevention.

More about this shelter

The Orange County Animal Shelter is responsible for providing humane care to unwanted, lost or abandoned animals
The Orange County Animal Shelter provides safe haven and vet care for hundreds of animals of all ages and descriptions each year.
Happily, we have had great success promoting our animals on Petfinder, Petsmart adoption events and now with the help of Adopt-A-Pet. Dozens of animals have been adopted by people who have come from many other states. Would you like to join them? If so, please let us know! The greater our reach the more homes we will find for the animals in our care.
Although we are about 1.5 hours away from the Washington, D.C. metro area, it is an easy drive. You can even make a day of it and stop off at country stores, Civil War battlefield sites and a huge mall complex in Spotsylvania/Fredericksburg. And after all, what is a few hours in drive time when you will be meeting your new best friend? If you need help getting here, call us for directions
