My story

Meet Vegas: The Gentle Giant

Vegas is a 4.5-year-old neutered Great Dane with a heart as big as his size. He came to us after his breeder passed away and is a “European import,” making him a truly special boy. Recently, Vegas had eye surgery, and his eyes look fantastic now (some of the pictures might be from before the surgery).

Vegas is great with female dogs and neutered male dogs. He lives with cats and pays them zero attention. It takes him a solid “rule of 3” to settle into his new home, so his amazing personality might not fully show until about a month in. Given his history of being moved around several times, we can’t blame him for needing some time to adjust.

Vegas does have two bites on his record, both involving kids who startled him while he was sleeping or lying on the ground. Because of this, a home with no kids is required.

At home, Vegas is not destructive at all. He loves his crate and just needs a treat to go in if you’re leaving. He willingly sleeps in his crate at night, even if he has a big comfy dog bed to sleep on. Vegas is 100000% a Velcro dog and wants to be wherever you are. He loves his naps and has a very calm demeanor. He’s not a fan of squeaky toys, fetch, or tug of rope. Instead, he prefers to chew on a toy in peace. Vegas is potty trained and amazing on a leash.

We are looking for a family that has a part-time, work-from-home, or retired lifestyle, as we don’t want this massive boy crated all day. If you’re looking for a gentle giant who will be your loyal companion and fill your days with love, Vegas is the perfect dog for you.

All of our Great Danes are altered, if medically possible, fully vetted, micro-chipped, and on heartworm prevention or treatment prior to being adopted. Thank you for considering adopting a rescue dog, you're saving a life when you adopt.

More about this rescue

To rescue Great Danes from neglect, abuse, and abandonment while providing medical care and individual rehabilitation through our experienced and loving foster home program until we are able to provide each rescued Dane with a qualified, caring, and permanent home that will ensure a good quality of life they deserve.

To assist owners that cannot afford spaying, neutering or heartworm treatment as funds allow while also educating owners on affordable, local spay/neuter clinics, spay/neuter benefits, vaccinations, backyard breeding, behavior, nutrition, and obedience. Additionally, we want to be a link point to other rescues and clubs. Raising awareness around rescues and the Great Dane breed is of great importance to us.

We have been rescuing Great Danes since 2011 and we take pride in the collective love, concern, and dedication we have given to the misunderstood and forgotten Danes. It is our mission to continue to be the voices of the less fortunate Danes and to provide them safety and their birthright to a quality of life filled with love and dignity. You can help us achieve our mission by donating funds, items from our wishlist, items of relevance, your time through volunteering, or by lending your home as a foster.
