Introducing Deputy!!!! This dog has a story to tell. This dog has beat the odds. Deputy was picked by an ACO found walking the streets dragging a chain that was embedded in his neck. He was bloody, swollen, hungry and hurt. The best thing that happened was Deputy meeting the dog catcher because it changed his life forever. He was given the medical treatment needed, the chain was surgically removed from his neck and he was given months to heal at the shelter. And it took months. Over time Deputy had no adoption or rescue interests and the shelter kept getting crowded with more and more dogs until Deputy's Days were numbered and his fate was suddenly darkened. However we had been following his story and his amazing recovery and we decided he was worth the save!
Deputy is the perfect name for him! He is a spin-off of Deputy Barney Fife. He is goofy and comical. If a dog could have a sense of humor Deputy has a great one. We aren't truly sure of his breed. The shelter said Walker Tree Hound and he most likely has some hound and Dobie to him. He loves to run and snoop and steal toys. He doesn't warm up instantaneously because he is too busy doing his own investigations of things but when he does you get to meet a sweet fella that is a bit aloof. Deputy does well with other dogs. He is unsure of cats. Our best guess is that Deputy lived his past life on a chain and had limited food on a daily basis so his food is important to him. He eats fast and he eats it all. We respect his space when he is eating and his new person should also. He walks well on a leash and we believe he is house trained or smart enough to accomplish that task with little effort. Deputy prefers not to be contained so he doesn't do that well in a crate.
Deputy is ready for his new home and he is one that deserves it! He has paid the price of life as a stray and is now ready to be cared for in a home of his own.
