Meet Phoenix
This little cutie, Phoenix, is ready for adoption. He spent a week in foster care and has proven himself exceptional. Phoenix is a five-month-old heeler mix. He is smart, sweet, well-mannered, quiet, calm, fun, mindful and gorgeous! Phoenix likes to play, but is not hyper or incessant, he plays and then settles in. He loves cuddling and snuggling. He loves people, puppies/dogs and should do well with kitties. He can sleep through the night with no accidents. After a week in foster, Phoenix:
• Walks well on a leash
• Will fetch and bring it back to you.
• Learned and performs the basic commands - sit, wait, off and no.
• Learned sit and wait
• Comes when called
• Clicker trained - will come running to you and sit when he hears the clicker
• Waits patiently while you’re cooking or working.
• Is very close to potty trained
Phoenix is an exceptional boy. He understands rules and boundaries and is full of love. He would really thrive with an older calm dog to be his mentor and show him the ropes. If looking for a wonderful young pup to welcome to your heart and home, Phoenix may be just the one you’re looking for.

Adopters MUST come to the shelter to transport their new family member home. We do not ship nor do we transport them to their new homes. Submitting the form is neither a guarantee of adoption nor an entitlement to "first come,first served" in the selection process of safely and appropriately placing our residents. Decision to approve/not approve an adopter(s) is based on the needs of the dog, not the needs of the adopter. The application should be downloaded before printing. The completed form can be returned through Facebook Messages, emailing to: smithgallhumanesociety@windstream.net or delivery to the shelter. The process usually takes 1 to 3 business days but can be slowed by not completing all of the questions, difficulty in reaching people relevant to approval and scheduling a home visit. Our residents must be returned to us at any point in time if the adoption is no longer suitable/safe for the pet or circumstances have changed to where a new home is needed. A contract must be signed to complete the adoption process. Standard fees for dogs are $100 and for cats $85. Some fees are subsidized in various amounts as low as $25 (minimum allowed subsidized fee) for dogs and $20 (minimum allowed subsidized fee) for cats . All of our animals are spay/neutered, have age appropriate vaccines and are free of internal parasites. Dogs are tested for heart worms and put on monthly prevention. Cats are tested for FIV/FeLV.

Our mission is to provide safe sanctuary and all standard preventive care procedures and veterinary services to the dogs and cats of our local communities Intakes are primarily owner relinquishments with some animals accepted from animal control when space is available. All potential adopters must be evaluated through our approval process. We are funded 100% by donations and fundraising events. With the exception of 2 kennel managers, our operations are totally managed with volunteers. We are always in need of donations and volunteers. We appreciate the sharing of our pets on social media as most of our adoptions have resulted through the resources of the internet.
