My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Mishka ACCT-A-178068 is a 4-year-old female who came in as an owner surrender on 10/28 due to the owner not being able to afford Mishka. The owners noted that Mishka "lived with cats and children, high energy". Since getting to the shelter we have seen Mishka's energetic side! She is a playful girl who loves to romp and chase toys.

Mishka is now available for adoption at ACCT Philly. You can meet her any day from 10am-6pm!

Behavior Notes:
Per Volunteer 11/3/24:
Mishka was very wiggly and excited to see me when I approached her kennel. When I went to leash her, she dodged the leash a few times and when I finally looped her neck, she pancaked a bit back into her kennel. After a second and some vocal encouragement she came right out. Pulls on leash, but I think with a harness would be very manageable. When we got to the play yard and I sat down she Came to me for pets!! Liked romping around but not much interest in toys. Enjoys treats sometimes and takes them very gently! Sometimes ignores them completely though. Took pets all over and very wiggly with me

10/26/24 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION:

KNOWN HISTORY:
Owned

KENNEL PRESENTATION:
Mishka was in a crate due to space. When approaching Mishka in her crate she began to bark and howl at the handler. She came forward with mid level wags and sniffed the handler curiously through the crate. When the handler opened the door Mishka came closer and sniffed again, but cowered away and began to bark and howl when the handler showed her the leash. The handler attempted to lasso Mishka in her crate for 10+ minutes. Mishka is very good at leash dodging, and in a small crate she was near impossible to lasso. Whenever the handler put the leashaway Mishak would come forward with wags, but would not allow handling. Eventually the handler was able to successfully lasso Mishaka, and she came running out of the crate.

LEASH SKILLS:
Pulled moderately

HANDLING:
In the room Mishka was very flinchy and skittish. She would cower and flinch away from handling at first, but would just keep sniffing the room. After a few minutes she allowed a little more handling, but preferred to be approached from the side rather than head on. Mishka showed some interest in toys, but was a little too nervous to fully engage in play.

PLAY
Engaged in some play, but got overwhelmed easily.

TOYS:
Interest but no possession

Per staff 10/29: "per staff unable to remove from kennel due to behavior- was growling at them, baring teeth, snapping at them and the leash.

Per staff 10/28: "Growling in kennel.

Medical Notes:

Per an intake exam on 10/28: Mishka was found to be in good general health. Staff noted that she was "BAR, very sassy, likes cheese, doesn't like people touching her mouth.
