My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Lelo's journey began when she was discovered frightened and alone in a local park, showing signs of recent separation from her puppies and the trauma of a past accident. Thankfully, compassionate Samaritans brought her to safety, where she began her path toward healing. Though initially wary, Lelo's time in a nurturing foster home has shown her that the world can indeed be safe, joyful, and full of love. Now, she's ready to find a devoted family who will patiently help her blossom into the confident, loving companion she's meant to be.

Lelo can be sensitive to sounds and would do best in a less congested environment with a compassionate adopter who understands that her journey to feeling safe will take time. With her playful spirit, Lelo's confidence soars in the presence of other dogs. She would thrive in a home with another dog who can be her playmate, walking buddy, and show her that the world is not a scary place. This sweet girl is making strides in her training, building trust through fun enrichment games and gentle introductions to new people and situations. Lelo has demonstrated great house manners, is potty trained, and can be left alone as long as she has space to roam, as confined spaces make her nervous. If you're ready to show her that the world is full of good things, Lelo is sure to repay you with her unconditional loyalty, playful spirit, and gentle affection.

More about this shelter

The Maryland SPCA connects wonderful pets to loving owners. We are not affiliated with any national animal organization, and we do not receive any government or United Way funding. Our mission is to prevent cruelty and neglect of animals through fostering the humane relationship between animals and people. We operate primarily in the Greater Baltimore Metropolitan area.

To make sure that our dogs and cats do not contribute to the pet overpopulation problem, every one is spayed or neutered before going into a new home. The cost is included in the adoption fee, as are the costs of shots and other necessary care. In addition, a free Positive Pooch class is available to our dog adopters.

There is no set time limit for how long an animal can remain in our adoption program. As long as an animal maintains general good health and a sound temperament, we keep him or her until adopted. We pride ourselves on providing premium care to the animals in a clean, pleasant environment. Our adoption staff works diligently to pair up adopters with the best animal match for their homes and lifestyles.

We transport animals from other shelters to our adoption center to help more animals get adopted. We also help pet owners find new homes for their pets so their animals don’t need to enter shelter care.
