My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Meet Samuel - The Sweetest, Snuggliest Black Lab Mix!

Samuel, also known as Sammy, is a 5-month-old, 40-pound bundle of love who came to Illinois after a rough start in Tennessee. This boy has blossomed beautifully in his foster home and is ready to find a family to love forever!

Here’s what makes Sammy so special:

Loves All Humans: Initially a bit timid around men, Sammy has come to adore every single person he meets! After a quick sniff, he’s ready for all the cuddles, kisses, and love you’re willing to give. Be warned – he’ll steal your heart and keep it!

Quick Learner: Sammy has mastered “sit” with a little treat motivation and is eager to learn more. His intelligence and curiosity make training a breeze!

Great Walker: This curious pup loves exploring the world on his walks, pausing to sniff each blade of grass and greet every stranger. He’s gentle on the leash and enjoys the journey.

Tug-of-War Enthusiast: Sammy is slowly becoming a tug-of-war pro! His playful side is shining through, and he loves a good game.

Potty Training Champion: Sammy is nearly fully potty trained and doing fantastic. With just a little more consistency, he’ll be all set.

Snuggle Master: If you’re looking for a loyal companion to keep you warm at night, Sammy’s your guy. Just a heads-up—he snores!

Not a Fan of the Crate: Due to past confinement, Sammy feels uneasy about crating. But he’s incredibly well-behaved outside of it, sleeping soundly through the night without accidents. If crated when his foster leaves, he’ll settle down after a bit and snooze until you’re back.

Velcro Pup: Sammy adores his foster mom and follows her everywhere. He’s a true shadow who’ll stay close by, showering you with love and affection. If you want a devoted buddy who’ll always have your back, Sammy’s your perfect match.

Sammy isn’t around other pets in his foster home, but is calm and friendly when meeting dogs on walks or through the neighbor’s fence. He’s excited to see other pups and has shown no signs of aggression.

If you’re ready for a loving, loyal, and playful addition to your family, Sammy is ready to fill your life with joy!

More about this rescue

We are a small 501 C3 nonprofit rescue located in Elburn, Illinois. In 2014, Safe Haven Dog Rescue became its own non-profit. We are licensed by the Illinois Agriculture Department.

The majority of our dogs and puppies are pulled from Kill Pounds and Shelters in Tennessee, Arkansas, and Illinois. We also accept local medical cases as often as our finances will allow.

Please take a few moments to read the stories about the dogs and puppies we have available for adoption. We disclose everything we know about the dogs, sometimes we know a lot often we know only that they were strays, thrown away on the side of the road, in the woods, or found in abandoned houses.

While we don’t always know their past we are certain that their future is much brighter.

We hope that you and your family are part of the future…..
