My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Meet Pumpkin, a young dog with a heart full of sweetness. Her gentle spirit shines through her timid demeanor, and her curiosity about the world around her is palpable. Pumpkin is alert, yet skittish, her ears perking up at the slightest sound. Her insecurities can make her appear nervous and submissive. But don`t be fooled, this shy canine has a lot to offer. She weighs 43 pounds, and her curiosity makes her an excellent companion for exploring the neighborhood because she walks well on a leash once she overcomes her fear of being out in the big scary world. We don`t know yet if she is house trained. She was well-behaved around her finder`s children and six dogs but her timidity is leading us to require that children in the home be at least nine years old to avoid scaring her. She knows the sit and come commands. Her favorite activities are fetch, running, tugging, toys, and wrestling. She loves to be up high and will climb on anything as often as she gets the chance. Pumpkin`s gentle and submissive nature makes her the perfect pet for a calm, patient owner who can provide a loving, reassuring environment. Pumpkin`s a bit of a jumper and a beggar too, her sweet eyes pleading for a game or a treat. And yes, she chews, but with the right toys and guidance, she`ll learn what`s okay to gnaw on. She is a bit wary of men, women, children, and strangers, but with patience and love she`ll learn to trust. With time, Pumpkin will blossom into a confident, devoted companion. Adopt Pumpkin and give her the chance to fill your life with her sweet, gentle love. (tw 12/5/2024)

More about this shelter

Citizens For Animal Protection, founded in 1972, is committed to sheltering, rescuing, and placing homeless animals in loving homes; advocating respect and compassion for all animal life; providing humane education to prevent animal cruelty; and raising awareness in the community of the needs of animals.

CAP is proud to announce that through life-saving adoption and transfer programs and a lot of hard work, we have maintained a placement rate of over 93% for all homeless pets surrendered to our shelter in 2021. In 2021, CAP provided care for 10,260 animals; this includes animals surrendered by the public and transferred in from animal control agencies and rescue groups, animals already in the shelter and foster care program, feral cats trapped/neutered/returned and animals receiving vaccinations and other treatments in our low-cost vaccination clinic, The Cornelius Clinic.
