My personality

My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Ares, a 1.5-year-old male, has the stunning look of a mix of a Schnauzer and a Poodle. This handsome boy is an eye-catcher and his personality warms up your heart. He is affectionate, gentle, and loving.

He was found roaming around a busy street, confused and scared. A Good Samaritan recognized that he was in distress and brought him to our partner shelter SOS El Arca Animal Rescue.

Soon we discovered that the reason he acted so scared is that he is completely deaf.

We don’t know why he ended up on the street as he wasn’t claimed, but we know he is ready for a loving home. A busy shelter is too stressful for this little munchkin.

He would do best in a home with a fenced-in backyard. He needs a safe and steady environment with a consistent schedule to make him feel secure.

We would like for Ares’s new owner to consider using a clicker to communicate with him and train him. When training a hearing dog, you would give the dog a vocal command; with a deaf dog you would give a visual sign. Then you would lure the dog into place with a treat. When the dog does what is asked, the handler would normally click a clicker to mark the correct response from the dog at the exact second the dog makes the right choice, followed by giving a treat.

Ares is very friendly, gets along well with other dogs,  and is neutral towards cats. He is crate trained and his potty training has begun and would need to be continued by the adopter.

He has a chance to come to New York on a transfer in mid-November if the right person adopts him directly. We would also be open to foster-to-adopt for the right person.

Ares is up-to-date on all his vaccinations, neutered, and microchipped. His current weight is 16 lbs.

Are you the one for Ares? Please fill out an adoption application at www.sosanimalwelfare.org, or email us for more info: sosanimalwelfare@gmail.com
