This helps NYC Second Chance Rescue with pet care costs.
Aster is a gentle, sweet-natured dog who’s ready to find a loving forever home. He thrives on companionship with the people he knows and trusts, spending his days happily lounging nearby or napping in cozy spots around the house. While he’s affectionate and calm with his familiar people, Aster can be skittish around new faces and in unfamiliar situations. When new visitors come over, he might hide until he's had a chance to get comfortable. However, with a little patience and time, he begins to relax and show his warm, friendly side. Aster is timid but not aggressive, and he appreciates a calm, quiet environment where he can feel secure.
Adjusting to a new home might take Aster a few days, but once he feels safe, his personality blossoms. When he first arrived in his foster home, he found safety hiding in the bathroom and closet, but by the third day, he confidently jumped into bed for snuggles. Giving him space and letting him warm up on his own terms works wonders for building trust. Aster enjoys a predictable routine. On walks, he’s calm and well-behaved, showing little interest in marking or interacting much with other dogs but handling encounters politely. Loud noises or sudden movements can startle him, but he can be refocused with a little support from his handler.
Aster is a wonderful companion for someone willing to be patient as he adjusts to a new environment. His sweet demeanor and calm energy make him an incredible addition to a kind, understanding home where he can continue to feel safe and loved. Apply today to learn more about Aster
