Here's what the humans have to say about me:
Elsie von Elben is a beautiful, 11-12-month-old German Shepherd. Smaller and sweet, she is full of snuggly love. During walks, Elsie appreciates being petted and happily greets every person who passes by. Elsie is as smart as she is loving, already having mastered commands such as sit, down and paw. And this sweet girl is eager to learn more, especially if offered a tasty treat. On the playground, Elsie does best around calmer pups, not appreciating pushy types (and she says no to cats). She prefers staying by her human's side and showering them with kisses!
Rescued from the Downey animal shelter.

Based on our experience, Westside's current thinking is to usually match first-time shepherd owners with a mix versus a purebred shepherd. Mixes are "softer" and somewhat more malleable. Exceptions can be made, however, for first-time adopters who show the confidence and leadership tendencies that purebreds will respect and respond to. Counselors have to use good judgment in assessing the attributes of the adopter, as well as of the dog. If you have doubts, get a second opinion from Robin or another experienced counselor.
