My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Frick and Sunny are a pair of formerly shy kittens who are becoming quite the adventurous duo! Sunny is a bit older, braver, and wiser, but he's teaching Frick everything he knows about how people are pretty great and fun to hang out with. Frick is a quick learner! These two have become pretty inseparable, and cry when they're kept apart for periods of time. Sunny is overall very confident around people and in new situations, and is quick to rub around your ankles and show off his big purr. Frick is younger and still figuring this all out, and will be shy at first. He needs to get to know you in a quiet and contained environment, and then be exposed to more people and space over time as he gets comfortable with you. Once he feels safe he loves to be pet and given cheek scritches, and will show off his rattly little purr.

More about this shelter

The Maryland SPCA connects wonderful pets to loving owners. We are not affiliated with any national animal organization, and we do not receive any government or United Way funding. Our mission is to prevent cruelty and neglect of animals through fostering the humane relationship between animals and people. We operate primarily in the Greater Baltimore Metropolitan area.

To make sure that our dogs and cats do not contribute to the pet overpopulation problem, every one is spayed or neutered before going into a new home. The cost is included in the adoption fee, as are the costs of shots and other necessary care. In addition, a free Positive Pooch class is available to our dog adopters.

There is no set time limit for how long an animal can remain in our adoption program. As long as an animal maintains general good health and a sound temperament, we keep him or her until adopted. We pride ourselves on providing premium care to the animals in a clean, pleasant environment. Our adoption staff works diligently to pair up adopters with the best animal match for their homes and lifestyles.

We transport animals from other shelters to our adoption center to help more animals get adopted. We also help pet owners find new homes for their pets so their animals don’t need to enter shelter care.
