My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Meet Alta! Alta is a 5 year old German Shepherd, searching for her forever home.
Alta is a friendly, confident, and independent dog. She loves to be outside for walks and play, but is also happy to hang out inside and do some snugglin'. She is a very social girl, but she is comfortable enjoying her own company as well. Alta loves to go for long walks, where she can show off her excellent leash training skills. When she first came to us, she was lacking many basic skills like leash training and basic commands, but in just a couple short months, she has mastered them! She is mostly house trained, but may have an accident inside if she doesn't get an opportunity to go outside for a while.
As a very active and athletic breed, German Shepherds requires lots of exercise for his physical and mental well-being. A dog who is not exercised enough will become frustrated and likely to develop undesirable behaviors. For grooming, GSDs usually requiring just a quick brushing every few days or so to help remove loose hairs, but they do shed more profusely once or twice a year.
When Alta came to us, she had severe ruptured mastitis, leaving her with massive open wounds. It took a while, but she has healed extremely well, and is now a very healthy dog. She is currently on anxiety medication to reduce her stress in shelter, however, once she adjusts to a new home, she could taper off this medication under veterinary supervision.
In Alta's ideal home, she would have a structured routine and lots of exercise. She would be best suited for a home with a family, so she could have lots of company. However, she can be very jumpy and would not be suitable for a home with young kids.

**Alta is awaiting medical clearance, so she is not quite ready for adoption yet, but she IS available for Foster-To-Adopt!**
