Collins entered Downey Animal Care Center as a stray and wasn't claimed. Volunteers at the shelter advocated for his safe exit and described him as a sweet and gentle boy who did well in a play group with other other dogs (see video.) Fortunately, as Collins' time was running out, we were able to rescue him on October 25th. He is around 9 years old and weighs 69 lbs.
Collins went on a two-week Frosted Fling, so we could learn what he is like in a home. His Fling Mom reports:
"What a joyful experience to bring this big mush-pot of love into our home! Collins has such a sweet soul. He is so easy to love because he is so gentle, and his cute crinkle-head expression makes makes us (and everyone who meets him) melt.
Collins is so great with people! He loved being near either one of us. He was often at my feet on a dog bed while I was working, or he'd go outside and find a sunny spot to nap -- so long as my husband would stay out there with him. As soon as husband came inside, Collins was less than 5 minutes behind him.
Collins was an angel about letting me wash his face with a warm cloth a few times a day when I'd apply his eye medications. He'd put his head on my knee and let me tend to him. The only help Collins needed was when he struggled on our wood floors, and his back legs splayed out, especially when he first woke up and was trying to find his balance. We borrowed yoga mats and used them in the hallways and high traffic areas to help.
Our dog (also a Pittie) would try to engage Collins in play, and he just wasn't able to (which was hard for our girl to understand). One thing we LOVED was that Collins never got frustrated by our dog trying to get him to chase her. No snapping, growling, nothing like that ever. Collins would just lay down. He's so good and so gentle!
Collins seemed to enjoy our daily family walks around the neighborhood. His legs would get a bit wobbly, but he got excited to go. He did better if our dog was a few steps ahead of him, as if he had someone to follow. My husband and I walked on the side with the curb as he would sometimes fall off the sidewalk if on the outside. We walked every single day, but his max was about 4-6 blocks.
Collin is great in the car! He just curls up. Around home, he loved being around people ALMOST as much as he loved napping in the giant donut beds.
Collin has a darling mellow personality and will undoubtedly bring the right family tons of joy!"
Collin is back on-site and ready for his forever home. Might it be with you?
