My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.

BLISSFUL came into rescue from a backyard breeder along with her sisters (Grateful and Thankful. She’s had her first vaccine, a microchip and been deemed a healthy girl by her vet and ready to find her loving family. Her parents both look like Collie mixes of around 60lbs but it’s just a guess on the weight she’ll be. This loveable girl loves people and gets very excited when she meets up with new people and especially with people she knows.
BLISSFUL is crate trained and sleeps soundly in it at night and will also nap in it quietly during the day. She loves to play with a variety of toys and especially likes the ones that squeak and roll around. Tug-of-war with a rope toy is one of her favourite things to do but of course she does likes to win. Housetraining is still a work in progress and when she does go outside, she’s rewarded with treats. She’s very food motivated and currently uses a slow feeder for her meals to help her slow down when she eats. We do recommend that she be fed in her crate if other dogs are in the home until she learns to slow down when eating. She loves her treats and will be fairly easy to train due to her love of food.
BLISSFUL has only just been introduced to a leash walk and she loves to go in a walk but leash training is definitely recommended to start in right away. Her ideal family is an active one and one that understands the needs of a puppy and the training that’s required to put into them.
Children should be aged 6 and up and be caring, gentle and loving towards animals. They also need to understand that puppies will chase them and also nibble their on toes and this is normal puppy behaviour.
BLISSFUL’s ideal family is an active one who will take her on lots of walks and hikes on the trails. She’s adventurous so would always be up for one seeing as she travels so well in a vehicle she would always be up for one. She’s fostered with a large dog and loves to play with him but when he’s had enough of her puppy antics he’ll let her know and she heeds his cues. She hasn’t met a cat but if they’re dog savvy and a slow, monitored introduction is done then they should get along okay.
Her spay is included in the adoption fee and as per our rescue agreement must be performed by the time she hits 6 months of age. If preferred, the adopter can use their own vet and we’ll reimburse what we would’ve paid if it was performed at the Barrie SPCA as we use them for our spay/neuters. We just need a copy of the invoice and a picture of the pet (preferably in a cone or onesie) to do so. We also need her adopter to be in agreement to sign her up for obedience/puppy training in order to adopt her.

If you’re interested in BLISSFUL and would like to meet her then please submit an adoption application for her.

Additional adoption info

Dogs: $750 (as of March 2024)
Cats: $250
The adoption process involves a brief application for the pet you are interested in. We will review your application and if you appear to be a good match for the pet, we will contact you for a phone interview. If that is successful we then do a vet reference check. If all goes well we will then set up a meet and greet for you and anyone else living in the home including any resident dogs with the pet. We then ask you to go home and contemplate your decision on adopting the pet and let us know your decision within 24hrs of meeting the pet. If applicable we will then move forward with the adoption at a mutually agreed upon time.

Go meet their pets

We only set up meet and greets with our animals once an adoption application has been submitted. We do occasionally have meet and greets with our animals at Global Pet Foods in the Barrie area.

You can check out the available pets on our rescuegroups website or on our rescue Facebook page.

More about this rescue

We’re a small rescue with a big mission to save animals in our Northern communities, local Pounds and owner surrenders (under certain circumstances.) We’re located in Barrie, Ontario and we serve the area of Simcoe County and within a two hour radius of the Barrie area.
Our intakes are placed in loving foster homes until they’re assessed, vetted including vaccines, microchip and a spay/neuter (if over 6 months of age) before they leave the rescue to be adopted. Female puppies are spayed at 6 months of age and males 8 months of age.)
We’re always looking for additional foster homes as we can only do intakes if we have foster homes for them to go into.
