LLAMA NEEDS A FOSTER OR FOREVER HOME!!!!
Name: Llama Best Guess for Breed: Shepherd/Lab mix
Best Guess for Age: 2.5 years old as of October 2024 Gender: female
Approximate Weight: 39lbs as of October 2024
Gets Along With: Other dogs! We haven’t seen Llama with cats or kids, but she can be tested!
Currently Living At: Shelter; needs a foster or forever home in the DC area to get her freedom ride up here!
Special Adoption Considerations: Llama is heartworm positive, but this Lucky Dog got extra lucky! This pup is part of a groundbreaking study we are conducting at our South Carolina Rescue Campus that has the potential to change the way shelters across the United States treat heartworm positive dogs. All dogs in the study are placed at random in either the 2 shot or 3 shot protocol with strictly monitored protocols in place. Four weeks following their final injection, the pups are eligible to transport to the DC area for placement in foster or adoptive care. After treatment concludes, we work with adopters to arrange a free follow up heartworm test after 6 months, followed by a second test at 9 months.
We are happy to discuss this treatment and which phase of the study this Lucky Dog is in right now! Just email the adoption coordinator - the address is at lower left!
Llama is Looking For: Llama did a great job raising her babies Cheeky Alpaca, Cheeky Camel, Cheeky Guanaco, and Cheeky Vicuna. Now that her mothering days are behind her, Llama is excited to explore the world and enjoy some well-deserved relaxation. Whether it’s going for quiet walks, lounging by your side, or simply enjoying a cozy spot in the sun, Llama is ready to be your loyal companion. She is eager to find a loving family who will give her the happiness she deserves!
What My Foster Says About Me: Shelter staff say that Llama is a great dog - she does really well in play group and gets along with all of the dogs!
Lucky Dog cannot guarantee any dog is housebroken. All of our dogs are working on their crate training.
TO ADOPT: The adoption fee for this dog is $475, which includes the cost of routine vetting, including vaccinations, spay/neuter, and heartworm treatment. If you are interested in adopting, please complete the Adoption Questionnaire online at bit.ly/adoptaluckydog
