My personality

My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Among the most agreeable of all small housedogs, the Pembroke Welsh Corgi is a strong, athletic, and lively little herder who is affectionate and companionable without being needy. They are one the world's most popular herding breeds. At 10 to 12 inches at the shoulder and 27 to 30 pounds, a well-built male Pembroke presents a big dog in a small package. Short but powerful legs, muscular thighs, and a deep chest equip him for a hard day's work. Built long and low, Pembrokes are surprisingly quick and agile. They can be red, sable, fawn, and black and tan, with or without white markings. The Pembroke is a bright, sensitive dog who enjoys play with his human family and responds well to training. As herders bred to move cattle, they are fearless and independent. They are vigilant watchdogs, with acute senses and a 'big dog' bark. Families who can meet their bold but kindly Pembroke's need for activity and togetherness will never have a more loyal, loving pet. Be ready to adopt.
Adoptions can happen quickly so be prepared for our call, only apply for dogs that every family member in the home wants, and wait to apply until you return from your vacation. Please fill out our online application and our adoption counselor will reach out to you to discuss meeting your new family member.

Additional adoption info

Shelter Hope Pet Shop is located in Janss Marketplace, 275 N. Moorpark Rd, #193G, in Thousand Oaks. We're located between Gold's Gym and Nordstrom Rack inside the Janss Marketplace mall. We're open Monday-Thursday by appointment only, Friday, Saturday and Sunday, for walk-ins and appointments 11am-4pm. We also do off-site events as much as possible to get more animals adopted...

More about this rescue

We are a volunteer-based pet shop that carries shelter animals available for in-store adoption. Janss Marketplace donates the space to us, we have amazing volunteers, and we pull animals from high-kill shelters, and showcase them in a busy mall environment, where they gain great exposure and find loving new homes.

We have found over 15,000 homes for shelter animals since our opening in November 2011.

SHPS is part of the Shelter Hope Project, which strives to make this the business model for all mall pet shops. We hope to abolish all puppy-mill pet shops, help find homes for the countless pets in our shelters that face being euthanized, and educate the public on how we can ALL help reduce future shelter population.
