My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

I'm a bigger gal but you'd never know from my calm, gentle demeanor. I can walk so easily on a leash and I stay right by your side. I am a sweetie pie with kind, light blue eyes. I'm a bit on the shy side but not very fearful. I appreciate being approached slowly since I don't see all that well, and I can be surprised easily. But this doesn't hinder my ability to be a wonderfully loyal, sweet, loving friend for life. I seem to show interest in other dogs so if you have others at home, let's meet and greet to see how we all get along! I'm a great girl and can't wait to show you all my wonderful qualities!

Go meet their pets

Adoptions are completed on a first come, first served basis. Please note there may be a wait to meet with a pet, dependent on advisor availability.

Please allow plenty of time to meet your perfect pet. Once you have selected a pet, the adoption process will take at least 30 minutes. We do not begin the adoption process after 5:30 pm.

Animal Humane New Mexico performs a background check on all adopters & does not adopt to anyone who has committed a violent crime. We reserve the right to refuse an adoption for any reason.

Please note, visitors must wear their mask indoors at all Animal Humane locations.

More about this shelter

Founded in 1965, Animal Humane New Mexico is the state’s leading private 501(c)(3) nonprofit animal welfare organization serving more than 10,000 homeless and at-risk dogs & cats each year. We never euthanize based on age or length of stay and since 2010, have re-homed 100% of healthy pets in our care. We support every companion animal at Animal Humane with outstanding veterinary, social and emotional care, and love.

As a private nonprofit shelter, we receive no city, state or federal funding; each dollar judiciously spent is earned or raised. We are nationally recognized as a top U.S. charity based on financial accountability, transparency, and administrative-to-program cost ratios. Animal Humane is among only 9 percent of nationwide charities to have received five consecutive annual four-star evaluations, the highest possible, from Charity Navigator, including a top score of 100 for accountability and transparency.
