My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Please read the bio in full for answers to your questions. In the event you have a
question that is not covered in the bio, please email info@seniordoghaven.org. If
interested in adopting, please complete an adoption application which can be found at https://seniordoghaven.org/adoption-process/.

Please note that because all our dogs live in foster homes, we are unable to set up meetings with a dog unless we have a completed adoption application on file. Adoptions must be within a reasonable distance from Temple, PA for our volunteers to be able to conduct an in-person home visit.

Meet Nugget! Nugget is a 12-year-old, 26 lb., Sheltie mix who was surrendered by his owner. He was in pain, struggled to walk, and really needed some help.

Nugget was taken into rescue and immediately treated for arthritis and dry eye. He requires daily medications that cost around $150 a month. Nugget received a dental and had 17 teeth removed. He also put on some much needed weight. Nugget has good vision but limited hearing. He is fully potty trained and gets along great with dogs and cats. Due to his arthritis, limited stairs will be required. Nugget walks well on a leash and enjoys being outside. An adult-only or dog-savvy child home is ideal.

Nugget is a happy couch potato who enjoys laying near his people and getting endless pets. He loves resting in grass and soaking up sunshine and would really appreciate a fenced-in yard. Nugget just wants a family to call his own. Can it please be yours? Apply today!

Their adoption process

Additional adoption info

The goal of Senior Dog Haven & Hospice is to find the best home possible for our senior dogs.  To assist us in this endeavor, SDH&H requires a fully completed application, references, and a visit to your home by one of our trained volunteers.  For this reason we only process applications within a reasonable commute from the dog's foster home.

Our adoption fee is $200, however we offer a discounted rate of $150 for senior adopters over the age of 65.

More about this rescue

We are a small, dedicated group of fosters and volunteers. We strive to improve the lives of senior dogs who find themselves without a family to care for them anymore. We do not have a facility. Our dogs live in our homes as members of our families. We provide care, comfort, companionship and, most of all, unconditional love. We have worked in senior rescue for years, and see the continuing and growing need to get them out of shelters where they are often euthanized because of their age and/or medical reasons, or from owners that find themselves in crisis and no longer able to care for their companions (nursing home, illness, abusive situations, etc).

Senior Dog Haven and Hospice is a registered 501(c)3. All donations to our rescue are tax deductible to the fullest extent of the law.
