My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

How this pet arrived:
Spika was brought in by a community member on August 26, 2024.

Why this pet is the one for you:
Meet Spika! With her heart-melting brown eyes and perky ears, she's got the look of a secret-keeper and the energy of a pro athlete. Not big on the cuddles, but when it comes to chasing tennis balls, Spika's your gal-though she may politely decline the "bringing it back" part. Her favorite pastime? Making a splash in the kiddie pool, living out her dreams of becoming a part-time mermaid. Spika is still refining her manners, but with some positive training, she'll have them down in no time. She's a bit of an independent spirit who's not about that clingy life-so if you prefer your personal space respected, Spika totally gets it. Just make sure to grab a martingale collar (conveniently available on-site) and a stylish leash to make her feel like the classy lady she is. Ready for a pool-splashing, tennis-ball-chasing partner with eyes that'll melt your heart? Spika's all about bringing the fun and adventure

More about this shelter

San Diego Humane Society, an open-admission shelter, is creating a more humane world by inspiring compassion and advancing the welfare of animals and people. Our lifesaving safety net has helped San Diego become the largest city in the U.S. to keep healthy and treatable shelter animals from being euthanized. We are a private, independent, nonprofit organization that is not affiliated with any other humane society or society for the prevention of cruelty to animals.

With campuses in El Cajon, Escondido, Oceanside, Ramona and San Diego, we provide animal services for 14 cities within San Diego County. We not only care for 50,000 animals in our communities but also share the expertise we have gained through our innovative programs with shelters nationwide so they can save more lives in their communities.

While our influence is expanding nationally, our top priority is meeting the needs of San Diego. We provide exceptional care for all animals through world-class veterinary medicine, shelter and most of all: love.
