Here's what the humans have to say about me:
11\06\2024 Update: Shyla is blossoming into a sweet, intelligent, playful girl. She has a boy she pals around with. She will do great in a home with or without other pets. She can be in large packs but is more comfortable with more miniature packs. Shyla can escape from a chain link fence. A stockade fence she has not climbed. She is happy with you and can find you in the house.
Hello, my name is Shyla. I am a petite German Shepherd weighing around 35 lbs (as of 10/22/2024). I am skittish, nervous, and sweeter than sugar. All I want to do is be around my people. I am dog social, leash trained, crate trained, doggy door trained, and house trained, and I love to go for car rides if I know I am safe.
I was found wandering on a country road with one house close by. When my foster mom stopped for the first time, I was very nervous but oh so hungry. The lady came out of the trailer and asked if my foster mom wanted me; I was a stray. So, for the next two days, she stopped by three times daily, feeding me McDonald's cheeseburgers and nuggets. Finally, at dinnertime the next day, she had me. The rest is history.
I am scheduled to be spayed next week and will be ready for my home. My ideal home will be patient, work from home, or retired, with or without another pet. I have not been around any children, and my foster mom said older children would be best because loud, sudden movements make me nervous. My favorite things to do with you are going on walks looking at the leaves, sitting (snuggling) on the couch in front of the fireplace watching a movie, gardening in the backyard with you, sit with you. At the same time, you work, go for car rides, bark when I have something to say, get kisses on my nose, and rub my ears softly.

More about this rescue
My name is Carla Carlton. We (my husband and I) are retired militay. He served in the Air Force for 25 years. We have always done comunity service. So, when we got ready to retire, we found a place we wanted to live and bought a home. Well, the town we lived in has/had a high kill shelter. This broke our hearts.
Around this same time, I met a lady who fostered for Friends of Homeless Animals, RI. One day I got a call from FOHA there was a poodle in our shelter and he was on the short list. I went and pulled him. Roie (FOHA), helped set me up to foster and list our orphans to adopt with families who really wanted them. I am not sure how long ago it was, 16-18 years, I think. The rest is history. Through them and Mountain Pet Rescue, CO (and a few others in CO, UT, IA, IL, OR, CA, MS...), we have placed over 2500 dogs/ puppies and cats.
