Leah is 9 years old, weighs 44 lbs and who would do best in a quiet home without other dogs. She does well meeting new people and dogs, but needs her own space to live comfortably. She can coexist with savvy cats. Leah needs someone experienced, patient, and calm, someone who understands she may need space at times, but always comes back to being the happy, playful girl she is. She’s great in the car and at the vet.
Leah’s story is long and heartbreaking. She was a loyal family dog for eight years before being abandoned at a shelter, where she became at risk of euthanasia in October 2024. A foster stepped up and she was rescued, then adopted - then returned. Adopted again. Returned again. Eventually, she found stability with a foster who truly understood her, living happily with his dog Duke for about a year.
In November 2025, that foster tragically passed away, leaving Leah, Duke, and a cat alone in the apartment for two weeks before help arrived. A private boarder in Queens stepped in temporarily. We tried to place Leah and Duke together, but while Duke quickly received interest and got adopted, Leah was once again left behind. The noise and stress of temporary placements are not fair to her. She needs peace.
Leah is house trained, spayed, vaccinated, and deeply loyal to her person. She has quirks and opinions and needs someone who respects boundaries. She isn’t asking for much—just stability, understanding, and a place to finally stay.

AmsterDog Rescue does not have its own facility. Instead, we rely on fosters to care for our beloved animals. Our available animals may change depending on your location and we do transport animals for adoptions within a reasonable distance. Since you will possibly be speaking with and meeting a foster directly, an application must be filled out prior to meet and greets.
