My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

***BONDED PAIR - Bonded with Minnie. Will not be adopted separately, must go together!***

Meet Freckle, a sweet senior tripod who is searching for her forever home with her beloved daughter, Minnie!
~ Freckle may only have three legs, but that doesn't stop her from enjoying life to the fullest. This gentle girl has had a tough start, being abandoned with Minnie, and they've been inseparable ever since.
~ Freckle can be a little nervous when meeting new people, but with a little patience and a treat, she'll show you her loving side.
~ Freckle and Minnie must be adopted together and would do best as the only dogs in a calm home. They could potentially live with another senior dog after a slow introduction, but they do need space, so an apartment wouldn't be the best fit as they can be fairly vocal.
~ Freckle and Minnie can be reactive to new dogs at first, so a home without shared walls would help them feel more comfortable.
~ These lovely ladies would thrive with older, respectful children, preferably teenagers.

Freckle's kind, gentle nature will win you over, and together with Minnie, they are ready to find a loving family to call their own. If you're looking to welcome two wonderful seniors into your life, Freckle and Minnie are waiting to be your loyal companions!

Regularly Exhibited Behaviours Noticed:

Under-Socialized
Jumpy / Mouthy
Fearful / Nervous
Explanation of Behaviours:
~ Freckle is an active dog with moderate to low energy but requires daily attention, training, exercise, and enrichment.
~ She will need consistent work and training to address challenging behaviours such as mouthing and jumping.
~ Freckle can be shy and nervous at first, requiring her new family to introduce her slowly to new people, situations, and environments.
~ She has shown reactivity to new dogs & new people due to fear or discomfort, particularly when in her kennel, on leash, or behind barriers.
~ Freckle has some sound sensitivity and can be touch sensitive, especially with unfamiliar individuals. She is uncomfortable when objects are moved over her head, so desensitization will be key.

This dog would benefit from:
An active home
No apartment living
Ideally no other dogs in the home
Consistent training
Ample time and attention
Lots of socialization

Training Needs/Behaviours to Work on:
Basic training
Basic manners (jumping up and mouthing)
Socialization, especially addressing nervousness in new environments
Desensitization
Reactivity
Confidence building
Leash skills
For more information on any behaviours listed above, please check out our behaviour fact sheet: Behaviour and Definitions.

Please note that animals coming from foster care may behave differently in the centre due to the change in environment. Their behaviour during meet and greets may not fully reflect their foster care videos.

Additional adoption info

Come into the Centre and if you see a pet you like, you are able to do a "Meet and Greet" with that pet. Spend some time in alone with the pet or take a dog out for a short walk. If you are still interested in adopting the pet you can meet with one of our Adoption Counsellors who will have you fill out and application and will ask you some questions about the environment in which you live. If you seem like a wonderful match and your envirnoment meets the needs of the pet then your application should be approved!
