My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Chewy has arrived here at HSWC headquarters and his quest to find himself the perfect family has begun. Although this top executive is not showing us why he was named Chewy we can only assume he is somehow related to the founders of the Chewy inc. He is a very nice fella. He is in unfamiliar surroundings but has been polite and easy going so far. Once he is out on the walk he can't get enough sniffs and smelling all the new smells. He enjoys exploring. Don't be offended if he's more interested in sniffing the grass right now. He has had limited roaming experience. Probably worked alot of hours at the company. He pays more attention to you once all the outside smelling is done.
He will benefit from some obedience training and will gain confidence with structure and boundaries. Did we mention how handsome he is?
He has a very sweet and gentle personality.
Seems to walk by cats without much care.
Go slow is the name of game with this beautiful boy. He's been on a roller coaster and is looking for stability in his next merger. Please consider adding this hardworking fella to your life if you can give him a wonderful journey and help him be his best self. He is a bit underweight and could use a few cheeseburgers.
He has been around other dogs, but slow introductions and feeding in separate locations will be the keys to success in his new home.
Potential siblings will need to be interviewed to determine compatibility.
Come and meet Chewy! He has added you to his wish list... You will not be disappointed.
🟢 Ok by cats. Limited experience. Slow, supervised interactions recommended.

A "meet and greet" is required with all family members and the pet prior to finalizing the adoption application. If someone is adopting a dog and has another dog at home, we also require a "meet and greet" for the dogs as well. All animals in the home must be up to date on vaccinations prior to new pet going home. We do not adopt to people who will keep the pet outside exclusively. We may do a home visit either pre or post-adoption. Animals adopted from us are not be sold or given to another person. We verify all information on the adoption application and may deny an application with any false information on it. More about this shelter

The Humane Society of Wicomico County was started in 1968 by a group of people who wanted to help improve the lives of animals. We have come a long way in our 40+ years! We have a staff dedicated to making sure the animals that come to our doors are loved and protected as they wait for their forever home. Not only are our animals vaccinated, wormed and given flea preventative, we can treat animals that come to us with mange, ringworm, heartworm and pay for animals to be seen by an outside vet should there be a need. We have an on-site spay/neuter clinic that not only is used for our animals but we also offer low cost spay/neuter for animals of the public. We provide emergency boarding for victims of domestic abuse, fire, and medical emergencies. We also have the capability to set up an off-site emergency shelter for people evacuated from their homes. In addition, we have an education program to help teach kids about being a responsible pet guardian. We work with a wide range of rescue groups and our animals have been transported from our mid-Atlantic area throughout the North Eastern United States. Our shelter is an open admission shelter and we will take in approximately 3500 animals this year. We do what we do because of our love for animals and our desire to make a difference in their lives every single day.
