My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Wiz came into rescue when his owner could no longer care for him due to her age and in-home caretaker couldn't handle him. Now 7 years of age, he is neutered, current on vaccinations, heartworm negative and microchipped. Wiz has been foster care for 6 months and done well. He resource guards food and treats from other dogs, will tolerated calm dogs, but no cats or other small animals - squirrels, birds, etc are allowed in his yard. Because of some abuse (head strikes and kicks) he will do best in a quiet home with no small children. Wiz is 'head shy' from his past but with a little time he warms up to rubs. He still flinches with sudden movement of feet. Wiz loves to sit / lay on the couch next to his person and get gentle rubs so would do well with an older person. He loves car rides and going for walks. He will need a secure fence yard or leash walks only as he will dart off after anything that catches his attention.

More about this rescue

Rainbow Animal Rescue is a no-kill rescue based in North Carolina. We are a nonprofit, 501(c)(3) rescue organization.
We started our rescue in 2004 in an effort to help the many unwanted, abandoned and mistreated animals in Roanoke Rapids, North Carolina and the surrounding areas. We foster pets in our homes until we can find loving 'forever' homes for them. In an effort to aid more animals we recently entered into an agreement with Halifax County to operate a Rescue and Adoption Center. We now have a small shelter with 19 indoor / outdoor kennels, a puppy room, and exercise yards.
