About Kansas: Kansas is a sweet, lovable, and low-key Australian Cattle Dog (ACD). He had a traumatic beginning before being rescued and has been in foster care since September 2023. Kansas has learned to adapt to family life and needs someone experienced with sensitive personalities. Once he bonds with you, he’ll spring for love – quite literally. Kansas is best suited for a home without young children (under 10) and prefers a stable environment without much travel. Though ACDs are often known for their adventurous nature, Kansas is happiest being a home-body. He enjoys leisurely walks and would benefit from a fenced yard (preferably a privacy fence, but a 3.5-4ft fence could be acceptable with supervision). A fenced yard would be a requirement for him.
Compatibility and Behavior: - Great with other dogs (both fixed and intact) - Fabulous with cats (ignores them completely) - Kennel trained and quiet - No accidents in the house (if let out regularly) - No counter surfing, aggression, or prey drive - Does not chew furniture - Calm demeanor - Sensitive to thunder/fireworks but remains calm
Personality: Kansas is sensitive, quirky, happy, sweet, and calm. He loves playing both indoors and outdoors once he feels safe. He can *sometimes* be nippy, but its extremely soft and unintentional. He loves snackies, meal time, going with the crew (my dogs) and I to some dog events but can also easily chill at home and sleep on the couch while I am working (at home) or having a quiet night watching TV. Kansas is to never be left unsupervised outside of his kennel- This includes overnight. Kansas actually quite enjoys his kennel but can sometimes be too curious about what toys or blankets taste like and I’ve talked to him several times about this being an undesired trait, but he won’t listen to me.
Special Needs: Kansas has bilateral hip dysplasia due to poor breeding (x-rays available). Currently, this does not hinder him, and he shows no pain nor lameness. However, future medical assistance may be needed. Joint supplements and Adequan injections are recommended.
