Guinea pigs make wonderful pets for kids, teens, and adults. They are lower maintenance than rabbits, and less skittish than hamsters, so they can be a great “middle ground” for a first pet. Guinea pigs are social and do best with a companion of the same gender. They are fast learners and many will squeal in delight when they anticipate a veggie treat or a fun activity. Guinea pigs need a secure enclosure to live in, but benefit from supervised time outside their enclosure to stretch their legs. Guinea pigs generally live between 4-8 years with proper care.

More about this shelter
We are an open admissions shelter, meaning we take in homeless animals regardless of age, breed, health, temperament or lack of space. On average, we take in about 5,500 stray, surrendered and abandoned animals per year including dogs, cats, small mammals, birds and reptiles. We provide adoption services to find safe, happy homes for these pets; and also provide low-cost vaccination and microchip clinics to help safeguard them against illness or being lost forever.
