Our favorite thing about Teddy is that we have seen him grow from a very weak and troubled dog to a very happy boy. He is a special needs case, in that he will need someone who would rather sit and binge-watch an episode than go on a long walk. He struggles with stairs and will need either a home without or someone who can help him by lifting and carrying him.
He adores people, other dogs, and even does fine with cats.
This boy would rather spend his days curled up at your side than doing much else. He loves treats and takes them so gently. He's a puppy but moves slowly and carefully so he approached all new situations with a heavy dose of caution.
Teddy came to us as a medical case where he couldn't gain weight and was very weak. We have tried a variety of solutions and now time will tell how he will do in the future.
Teddy was diagnosed with Centronuclear myopathies (CNM). This is a inherited, congenital disorder that affects his muscles. It is a rather rare disease, but we are hoping there will be the right family out there to take care of Teddy.
He really shouldn't need too much extra life-long medical care. Along with CNM, he does have mega-esophagus as well, which means he needs an elevated feeding dish, smaller portions throughout the day, and may have a bit of regurgitation from time to time. With mega-esophagus, he does run the low risk of pneumonia in his lifetime, which will just need to be monitored and managed if it happens.
We do know that he will he be a very low activity dog, due the disease and having another medical issue that can increase his risk for collapse.
When Teddy came in for pictures, we all gathered around and loved on this sweet boy. He isn't like other dogs, but he is a very special lab who is looking for a forever home that will take care of him.
We would be happy to answer any questions from potential adopters about Teddy and his life-long disabilities.
