My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

PLEASE NOTE! Unless stated otherwise, our dogs and puppies are located in Arkansas, and transported to the north/northeast once adopted. We do occasionally have dogs/puppies placed in foster homes in the north/northeast. In the cases where the pet is somewhere other than Arkansas, it will be noted beside the name of the pet.

Luna Moonpie
This little lady is looking for a specific type of home. Luna Moonpie is 4 years old and weighs about 8-10 lbs. She is a chihuahua/pug mix who came into rescue when her owner had to go into assisted living. Luna Moonpie needs a single person home where she can be an only pet. She is currently in a foster home with a cat and a couple of other small dogs and has learned to co-exist with them, however, she does not like them and wants to be everyone's boss. She is shy at first but warms up and bonds after a little time and reassurance. She is a one-person dog. She does not enjoy being around children, but would be fine in a separate room or crate if you have kids who visit for short periods. Once she warms up to you, she is very affectionate and loves to be a lap sitter and cuddle. We know this is a big ask, but i have to believe that there's a single lady out there somewhere who needs her as much as she needs them!
Luna Moonpie's adoption fee is waived for the right adopter. We just want to see this tiny little girl in a home soon! Due to her fearfulness, preference will be given to local Arkansas adopters, but we may consider transporting her for the right adopter.

Located in Arkansas, but transport is available. Adopter must be able to pick up or arrange for someone to pick up for them at one of the following times/locations.
Harrisburg, PA 2am Fridays
Port Jervis, NJ 5am Fridays
Southington, CT 8am Fridays
East Hartford, CT 11am Fridays

Our typical adoption fee for puppies younger than 6 months old is $400, and for older puppies and adults, the usual fee is $350. This includes microchip, spay/neuter,  up to date on age appropriate vaccinations, dewormings, flea/tick treatment, and heartworm test (if over 6 months old) as well as heartworm treatment if they test positive. There is a transport fee of $150 per dog, depending on the transporter. We use Pack Leaders Rescue Dog Transport most often, but also use Hearts Transport as well on occasion.

More about this rescue

Adopt-A-Stray was founded in Jan. 2010, by Kelley Prichard. Since then, it has grown to include a few wonderful volunteers who work very hard to help ensure that our pets are place in loving, forever homes. We are based in Alexander, AR, but we list all of our available pets in the northeast. We work with several different transporters to get our babies to their new homes in the northeast once they are adopted. The transporter we use most often Pack Leaders (www.plrdogtransport.com). All pets are given age appropriate vaccinations before they leave. Every pet is seen by our vet prior to transport. If you see a pet listed that interests you, please be sure to read the description thoroughly and inquire to the email address listed. Thank you for considering a rescue dog!
