My personality

My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Chickpea was born 6/9/24 and is the only survivor of a litter of 4. He is very smart and learning how to "indoor cat" quickly. He eats great and has learned that “din-din” means food is on the way! He loves his Sheba kitten pate and Purina One kitten kibble.

He has 3 modes: zoomies playtime, cuddle bug, and sleep. He loves playing with his 1 1/2 year old foster brother. They chase each other all around the house and play wrestle. He loves toys that he can bat at, tunnels, and ball mazes. He loves to sleep in bed with his foster mom and he follows her to her room when she announces bedtime. He curls up against his human to sleep at night.

He loves being combed and brushed which he will need to maintain his fluffy coat and prevent matting. He tolerates getting his nails trimmed but only if he is not placed on his back. He is fully litterbox trained. He is still skittish around new noises and things, and he will run and hide if he is startled.

He gets along with most of the cats in the home. The oldest wants nothing to do with him and he has learned to leave her alone. He would definitely do best in a home with another young cat or kitten to play with and learn from. We’re not sure how he is around children since he has not been exposed to any.

Their adoption process

Additional adoption info

We have an adoption application to learn a bit about the home our cats will be going to and the family's motivation for adoption and expectations about pet ownership. We also have an adoption contract, which includes a no declawing and indoor-only clause along with a vet promissory note that ensures you will continue with the medical care and spay/neuter if needed.

We DO NOT do any out of state adoptions except on the NC border on a case-by-case basis.

We require a donation of $120 for adoption of unaltered kittens with a PTV Contract. All kittens receive vaccine series and wormings as well as medical treatment as needed. The adopter is responsible for obtaining their rabies vaccine and spay/neuter if the kitten is not of age at the time of adoption. We can provide resources for low cost clinics that offer these services.

We ask a donation of $25 to adopt Career/barn cats.

We require a donation of at least $140 for adoption of Spayed/neutered cat.

Bonded pairs adoption donation is $200.

Sometimes we require rental checks or home inspections. We always have a Meet n Greet to make sure everyone gets along. We encourage bringing the whole family!

More about this rescue

Our mission is to improve the lives of displaced cats and reduce feral cat population in Hampton Roads by socializing outdoor-born and feral kittens for adoption into loving forever homes. We are a VDACS registered 501c3 nonprofit, founded in 2014 with over 60 foster homes.

Our heart is in TNR (Trap, Neuter, Return of ferals), where cats are fixed, vaccinated, ear tipped, and allowed to live out their lives without reproducing. We are advocates for advancing legal and social acceptance of TNR in Hampton Roads. Our unique feral kitten socialization program has a 90% success rate in socializing feral-born kittens to become loving, in-home pets.

We are always seeking fosters, volunteers, transporters, and trappers to join our team!
