Here's what the humans have to say about me:
Peanut is on the lookout for his forever family! This 12-week-old, 6 lb Dachshund / Westie mix is as sweet as his name suggests. With his soft fur and soulful eyes, Peanut is sure to melt your heart from the moment you meet him.
Peanut may be small, but he’s got a big heart and an even bigger sense of fun! Whether he’s chasing after a squeaky toy or rolling around in the grass, Peanut knows how to enjoy life to the fullest. His playful nature is balanced with a love for cuddles—he’ll be just as happy curling up in your lap as he will be romping around the yard.
Peanut was found as a stray in Arkansas, living in a bush with his mom and 4 other brothers. They were rescued and brought into a small shelter, and then booked a ticket to Colorado for a fresh start.
Peanut is appropriately playful and inquisitive for his young age. He's also so loving and cuddly. Even at just 12 weeks old, it's clear that this puppy is SO smart and very sweet.
Since Peanut is just a puppy, he's a blank slate just waiting for a kind and patient human to show him the way. He has all the potential in the world to be an awesome adult companion. He will form firm bonds with his family and learn positive socialization skills through virtual or in-person positive reinforcement puppy kindergarten followed by force-free level 1 Obedience Classes. These classes will make a profound difference in a puppy's ultimate behavior and in their relationship/bonding with their people. It does take time and commitment...yet pays off a thousand times over when you have a dog that can accompany you out in the world with excellent behavior.
We're open to Peanut finding his forever home with a retired couple or individual with the commitment and energy to train and enjoy a silly and super-smart puppy. Farfel's isn't willing to place Peanut with a family that works full-time outside of the home. It's not in his best interest as a puppy in her developmental stages to spend these long hours alone. A family that works from a home-based office would be great for periodic puppy-loving throughout the day. We also require all of our adopters to sign up for positive reinforcement training with their new family member and will provide you with a list of trainers we recommend throughout Colorado!
Peanut is up to date on his shots, although will still require 1 or 2 more parvo booster(s) as he gets a bit older, before it is safe to go out on public ground. He is not yet neutered, as he is too young. It’s been shown that neutering closer to 1 year old is better for the dog’s health. For this reason, we give any puppy under 1 until they are 1 year old to be neutered. Neuter is required by law to finalize any adoption, and Farfel’s Rescue covers the full cost of his neuter.
**PLEASE NOTE** If you're truly interested in adopting Peanut, please be sure to fill out our Farfel's Rescue adoption application found at the link above or at farfels.com/adopt. Adoption site applications such as Petfinder and Adoptapet don't provide enough information and therefore aren't useful. Our Farfel's application is the only initial tool that we have to determine a great match for this very deserving puppy. We're sorry, but in most cases, we're unable to get back to those that don't submit our Farfel's Rescue adoption application. Thanks very much for choosing rescue.
If you’re ready for a loyal little sidekick, Peanut can’t wait to meet you!
