Say hello to Shirley! Shirley is an 8 month old Border Collie mix and is ready to take on the world! She’s a smarty pants who will be the life of any party she walks into.
Shirley is doing very well potty training and has had no accidents! She enjoys spending time in her crate during the night and when home alone. With her easy-going personality, she’d likely be able to free roam in her forever home.
Shirley adores other animals! She enjoys playing with other dogs and is respectful of their boundaries. Due to her herding dog nature, some dogs don’t love her play-style but Shirley has been able to pick up on that and adjust accordingly. She currently lives with two cats and loves to be their little shadow! She is very curious but gentle around them. She’d likely do well in a home with dog-savvy cats. She’d likely do well with kids as long as they’re willing to match her energy. Given she’s still a puppy, supervision around small children is recommended.
When she’s not being a cuddle bug, she enjoys a medium to high level of activity. Shirley would do best in a home that’s able to give her consistent activity and purpose. This may include daily walks and mental stimulation in between. She’d likely do well without a fenced yard given her forever family is committed to recall training and getting her out for routine activity. Shirley’s been known to bark occasionally at people walking by the home but is fairly quiet aside from that. Shared walls may be considered given a correct fit and continued training.

Adoption fee includes spay/neuter, heartworm/Lyme test, all age-appropriate vaccinations (distemper, rabies, and Bordetella), heartworm and flea/tick preventatives, and microchip implant (including registration). Adoption fees INCLUDE a mandatory sales tax of 7.525%. Age and breed are based on veterinarian and intake professional’s recommendation and not guaranteed as a rescue animal’s history is often unknown. Due to post-adoption services provided, we prefer to adopt within a 150-mile radius of the Twin Cities. However, we will consider up to 250 miles if the foster agrees to travel requirements and staff approval.

What We Do
We help dogs and cats find homes with loving families through foster-based care. Every dog and cat lives with a foster family until they find their forever families. We provide all of their basic needs including proper food, veterinary care, behavior training, and supplies.
Through in-home fostering, we learn about each animal’s temperament, personality, likes/dislikes, and any medical needs. With this first-hand information, we can then find the right family for each dog and cat.
Our volunteers also educate the public on responsible companion animal care and represent respect for animals at all times. Whether we’re working with prospective new families, meeting people at public events, or socializing with friends and family, we encourage others to view and treat their pets as members of the family. We are their guardians, and they depend on us for companionship and care.
We spay/neuter prior to adoption.
We microchip all our Pet Haven Pets and remain as a secondary contact.
We make sure all pets are up to date on required vaccinations
We test for Heartworm and Lymes in all our dogs and are transparent in the results and treament
We test for FeLV/FIV and are transparent in the results. We believe that cats who test positive still deserve a chance at a quality home.
We do not euthanize animals unless they have untreatable health or behavioral conditions that deny them an acceptable quality of life or makes them a serious threat to people, other animals, or themselves.
How We Operate
We rely on adoption fees, tax-deductible donations, grants, and special events to keep our rescue operating. Our staff, Board of Directors, and volunteers have provided the passion and commitment to keep Pet Haven a safe haven for animals for almost 70 years.
We are committed to preventing pet homelessness through the SNIP Grant. Since 2005, we have granted more than $240,000 to organizations in Minnesota to support spay/neuter initiatives.
