My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Meet Indiana Bones! Just as his name says, this boy is ready for the adventure of a lifetime. Indiana Bones is a 1.5 year-old Pit Bull mix who is 40 lbs of pure love and joy. Indiana has had a rocky start to his journey but is ready to meet his forever family where he can settle into the good life. He is so affectionate and wants nothing more than to cuddle up with his favorite person and hang out!

He is fully potty trained with the very rare accident due to being super excited. Aside from that, he’s learned how to alert his people that he’s got to go! He’s crate trained and treats it like his safe haven. He eats meals in his crate and has no complaints spending time there when home alone.

Indiana is learning how to coexist with other animals and has been doing great. He enjoys spending time with other dogs and would prefer if he has a friendly buddy around to help him stay confident. If he meets a dog that matches his energy, they are a friend for life! As far as cats go, he’s learning how to pick up on their body language. He’s largely uninterested in his foster family’s cats but is working on boundaries with them! Indiana has yet to spend time with children. We recommend slow and supervised introductions with kids.

Indiana will likely prefer a home where someone is there to see him throughout the day. He’s working through some separation anxiety and responds well to consistency and routine. Indiana’s forever family should be one that’s dedicated to providing him with daily activity and stimulation to keep him from getting too bored! He would prefer a fenced yard to assist in burning off excess energy and work on his recall skills.

Indiana Bones is ready to find his forever home! With continued love and affection, Indiana will be sure to thrive! If you’re interested in learning more about Indiana and think he might be a good fit, fill out an application using the link below to learn more!

Additional adoption info

Pet Haven is a foster-based rescue. Our animals live with foster families until they are placed in permanent homes and their foster families get to know the dogs and cats learning important information about the animals. For example, the foster family will know if the dog or cat is good with other animals or children, and will have a good idea of what kind of training, attention, and special needs the pet may require. This makes our foster families great resources for potential adopters!

More about this rescue

Our Mission
Pet Haven improves the lives of pets and the people who love them by rescuing, rehabilitating, and rehoming dogs and cats; reducing pet overpopulation by supporting spay and neuter efforts, and providing resources to people that help strengthen the human-animal bond.

Our Vision
A Minnesota where all pets live in safe, loving homes.

Our Values
Excellence in service and care; community; integrity; innovation; perseverance; compassion; a rewarding place to volunteer

How We Help
Spay/Neuter Initiative Program: Providing support to end pet overpopulation in Minnesota
Owner Surrender: Providing a safe haven for pet owners
Foster: Committed to finding forever homes for cats and dogs
Phoenix Fund for Special Needs: Providing veterinary care for animals in need of healing
What We Do
We help dogs and cats find homes with loving families through foster-based care. Every dog and cat lives with a foster family until they find their forever families. We provide all of their basic needs including proper food, veterinary care, behavior training, and supplies.

Through in-home fostering, we learn about each animal’s temperament, personality, likes/dislikes, and any medical needs. With this first-hand information, we can then find the right family for each dog and cat.

Our volunteers also educate the public on responsible companion animal care and represent respect for animals at all times. Whether we’re working with prospective new families, meeting people at public events, or socializing with friends and family, we encourage others to view and treat their pets as members of the family. We are their guardians, and they depend on us for companionship and care.

We spay/neuter prior to adoption.
We microchip all our Pet Haven Pets and remain as a secondary contact.
We make sure all pets are up to date on required vaccinations
We test for Heartworm and Lymes in all our dogs and are transparent in the results and treament
We test for FeLV/FIV and are transparent in the results. We believe that cats who test positive still deserve a chance at a quality home.
We do not euthanize animals unless they have untreatable health or behavioral conditions that deny them an acceptable quality of life or makes them a serious threat to people, other animals, or themselves.
How We Operate
We rely on adoption fees, tax-deductible donations, grants, and special events to keep our rescue operating. Our staff, Board of Directors, and volunteers have provided the passion and commitment to keep Pet Haven a safe haven for animals for almost 70 years.

We are committed to preventing pet homelessness through the SNIP Grant. Since 2005, we have granted more than $240,000 to organizations in Minnesota to support spay/neuter initiatives.
