My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

How this pet arrived:
Sugar was brought in by her previous owner on 9/26/2024.

Why this pet is the one for you:
Meet Sugar! This sweetheart of a doggie is a little on the fearful and anxious side until she gets comfy in her surroundings or with new people. She has had no exposure to children, and she is playful and anxious around other dogs. Sugar reacts to dogs she sees through the window. She also has a strong prey drive and can get a little mouthy when playing. When she meets new people outside her home, she can be a bit anxious, however inside her home, she is more playful, friendly, excited and affectionate. Sugar might get possessive with her toys, food and treats. She will benefit from a quiet home where her people give her a lot of structure and consistency, managing her fearful yet exuberant nature. If you would like to meet Sugar, please visit our Escondido campus.

At SDHS:
This pet has been vaccinated, microchipped and spayed/neutered. This pet is now ready for her new home!

More about this shelter

San Diego Humane Society, an open-admission shelter, is creating a more humane world by inspiring compassion and advancing the welfare of animals and people. Our lifesaving safety net has helped San Diego become the largest city in the U.S. to keep healthy and treatable shelter animals from being euthanized. We are a private, independent, nonprofit organization that is not affiliated with any other humane society or society for the prevention of cruelty to animals.

With campuses in El Cajon, Escondido, Oceanside, Ramona and San Diego, we provide animal services for 14 cities within San Diego County. We not only care for 50,000 animals in our communities but also share the expertise we have gained through our innovative programs with shelters nationwide so they can save more lives in their communities.

While our influence is expanding nationally, our top priority is meeting the needs of San Diego. We provide exceptional care for all animals through world-class veterinary medicine, shelter and most of all: love.
