Hello, Vancouver Canada! I moved here in September 2024 and have been living with some amazing humans, patiently waiting for my forever family. My fosters have discovered why my name Khoshee means "joyful" in Farsi: my brilliant amber eyes, alert ears, and playful energy have truly brought joy to their lives!
As a puppy, Khoshee was discovered abandoned in a remote area. Malnourished and suffering from superficial physical wounds, she was rescued and brought to safety. With her essential needs met, Kohshee's confidence grew as she developed into a kind and gentle young dog.
She has enjoyed playing with dogs of all ages and sizes. She has swiftly navigated canine social dynamics with keen awareness and responsiveness. An intelligent girl, she has sought guidance and rewards via verbal and physical praise (treats weren't part of her normal puppyhood) while learning appropriate behaviours. Khoshee has presented as an ideal candidate to adeptly absorb positive reinforcement obedience training; her humans have been rewarded with unwavering loyalty and affection. She has been gentle around kids, though sudden movements have provoked some unease, displayed as alert/warning barks.
As a rescued puppy who had been abandonded, Khoshee has bonded quickly and deeply to those who have provided her with security and kindness. Understandably, she has exhibited some separation anxiety during her adaptation into a stable home environment.
As loyal as they come, Khoshee will be a friend for life to those who accept her into their lives. With consistency in routine and as time goes on, her independence may blossom, lessening her current anxiety and need to "shadow" her humans.
Khoshee gets along with:

Kids: limited interactions, all positive, no aggression
Fears: Nothing significant to note. Alert to loud noises & seeks guidance from humans on how to react/proceed. Some separation anxiety in the house - will subside as she settles in. has bursts of wanting to share love and then settles down for 1-2 hours.
Training: Understands basic commands, responds to verbal and physical positive reinforcement, quick & eager learner.
Leash skills: Learning to walk gently on harness. Please be prepared to train/continue training.
House trained: Work in progress. Khoshee was accustomed to living in a crowded shelter, not accustomed to eliminating outdoors on leash. Please help her learn & reinforce outdoor elimination is good! OR where to go in new home.

Please Note: LALDR highly encourages adopters to research some local dog trainers before their dog arrives. Although a 1-on-1 trainer is often not needed, it is good to have someone in mind in case any problematic behaviours arise. Most bad behaviours can be modified if caught early enough, so make sure to nip undesirable behaviours in the bud before they become serious problems.
Basic training should be taken seriously, but should not begin until your dog is well settled in - at least a couple of weeks. After you feel your new dog is relaxed and comfortable in their new home, check out training courses in your local area. Even basic beginner courses like those taught at a local pet store can have a huge benefit in helping your dog learn to socialize and get used to being in public situations, all with the added benefit of strengthening their bond with you.
Normally, we will not approve adoptions to homes with children under 12 years of age. However if a dog has been determined to be good with children we will approve applicants with children 8 years or older. More information can be found on our website.
The age and breed of a dog is usually an educated guess, so we are not able to guarantee the accuracy of age or breed of our dogs.
Information included in the profile is provided to us from the international rescuer or local fosters. Every dog is an individual and can act differently in different situations based on the person adopting them and the environment in which they live.
While most dogs find escorting passengers flying directly to Vancouver, some will find flights through Toronto or Montreal. In that case, additional fees will apply to fly your dog to Vancouver by cargo. Unaccompanied cargo costs within Canada range from $350 - $550 depending on the size of the dog. LALDR will be as transparent as possible with you regarding these costs.
[MID-EAST] *Vaccinations: Dogs from the Middle East are vaccinated for rabies, parvo, distemper, leptospirosis, adenovirus type 1 and para-influenza. Bordetella is not given, as that has not been a problem in the Middle East.
[TURKEY] Dogs from Turkey receive a 4D SNAP test to include Heartworm, Ehrlichiosis, Leishmania and Anaplasmosis.
