SOPHIE NEEDS A FOSTER OR FOREVER HOME!!!!
Name:Sophie Best Guess for Breed:Retriever mix, probably Lab in there
Best Guess for Age: 6.5 years as of October 2024 Gender: Female
Approximate Weight: 43 lbs
Gets Along With: Other dogs! We haven't seen her with kids or cats but she can be tested.
Currently Living At: Coming to Lucky Dog's South Carolina rescue campus; will need a foster or forever home in the DC area after completing heartworm treatment.
Special Adoption Considerations: Sophie is heartworm positive, but this Lucky Dog got extra lucky! This pup is part of a groundbreaking study we are conducting at our South Carolina Rescue Campus that has the potential to change the way shelters across the United States treat heartworm positive dogs. All dogs in the study are placed at random in either the 2 shot or 3 shot protocol with strictly monitored protocols in place. Four weeks following their final injection, the pups are eligible to transport to the DC area for placement in foster or adoptive care. After treatment concludes, we work with adopters to arrange a free follow up heartworm test after 6 months, followed by a second test at 9 months.
We are happy to discuss this treatment and which phase of the study this Lucky Dog is in right now! Just email the adoption coordinator - the address is at lower left!
Sophie is Looking For: Her forever home! This sweetie is looking for a new home through no fault of her own. She's eager to once again have her own humans for long sniffy walks in the neighborhood, making new pup and people pals - and exploring the rest of the world!
You know what, though? She's way out of the puppy yips and as a wise, experienced dog knows what's most important in life: Being safe and loved and under her own roof. That's right at the top of her wish list. In exchange she promises adoring gazes and loyal companionship for all her days.
What My Foster Says About Me: We will update this once she has arrived in the DC area and spent some time with her foster.
Lucky Dog cannot guarantee any dog is housebroken. All of our dogs are working on their crate training.
TO ADOPT: The adoption fee for this dog is $475, which includes the cost of routine vetting, including vaccinations, spay/neuter, and heartworm treatment. If you are interested in adopting, please complete the Adoption Questionnaire online at bit.ly/adoptaluckydog
