My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

PEANUT NEEDS A FOREVER HOME!!!!

Come meet Peanut and other great adoptable dogs this Sunday (Nov. 10) from 12-3 pm at the Petsmart in Rockville (5154 Nicholson Ln, Kensington, MD 20895)!

Name:  Peanut      Best Guess for Breed:    Retriever type mix, some black lab in there

Best Guess for Age:   3 months as of October 2024           SEX: Female

Estimated Weight (puppies' weights change quickly!):   14.5 lbs as of 10/14/24

Gets Along With:        Most puppies are in the prime of their socialization window and will do well with other dogs, cats and kids so long as they receive patience and proper training.

Currently Living at:  DC area foster home.

Special Adoption Considerations:   Puppies under 6 months of age need to have multiple potty breaks/exercise throughout the day. Potential adopters with a standard 8-hour workday must be willing to make arrangements to meet the needs of their puppy.

Peanut is Looking For:    Woof! I'm Peanut. My siblings Petunia, Paulie, Petey and I have loved growing up together but now we're ready to put on our big-puppy pants and go our separate ways to get our own forever families! We've talked it over and this is on our wish lists:

  • Play time!
  • Snuggles!
  • More play time!
More snuggles and deep naps on warm laps!
  • World exploration!
  • Making new pup pals!
  • Dog school, so I can show how super smart I am!

What My Foster Says About Me:  I'm adjusting to being the last of the litter to find a home. It means more belly rubs, so I'm not complaining too much. I got my collar at the end of October and I'm working hard on my on-leash manners. I'm getting good at sitting to get my leash on/off, and once we're out I love to trot along and sniff everything we pass. I mastered 'sit' quickly and now we are working on crate training and going potty outside.

Everyone loves the groans, grunts, and Chewbacca noises I make when I have a particularly tasty treat or special toy. I am food motivated and very people focused. I've done well meeting other dogs and made fast friends with my puppy cousin. We've been running around in her fenced-in yard and I can keep up even though she's 3 months older and about 30 lbs. bigger than me! I'm always excited to meet new people so they can pet me, and I've done great with all the kids I've been introduced to.

Puppy Vetting Requirements:        Lucky Puppies have had their age appropriate vaccines, but may not yet be “fully” vaccinated. It is the adopter’s responsibility to ensure that the remaining puppy vaccines are given at the appropriate time. Please also keep in mind that, until your puppy is fully vaccinated, they are at greater risk for illness than an adult dog.

Due to this puppy’s young age, she/he has not yet been spayed or neutered.  As part of the adoption contract, it will be your responsibility, as the adopter, to ensure that this is done no later than January 30, 2025. There are NO EXCEPTIONS and NO EXTENSIONS to this date. A non-refundable spay/neuter deposit will be collected if you would like Lucky Dog to pay for this animal to be spayed/neutered at one of our low cost partner vets.

Your new puppy will need to work on their house training and will also need to go to obedience school so they can grow into a well-socialized dog!

TO ADOPT:       The adoption fee for this puppy is $485, which includes the cost of routine vetting and transport from the shelter.
If you are interested in adopting, please complete the Adoption Questionnaire online bit.ly/adoptaluckydog

Their adoption process

Additional adoption info

The adoption process begins when you submit an adoption application either online or at an adoption event. The individual responsible for the dog you are interested in adopting - a position we call the “adoption coordinator” - will then set up a time to discuss your application over the telephone. The adoption coordinator will check your vet reference to make sure all current and past pets were kept up-to-date with their shots and medical care. The adoption coordinator will also set up a home visit with one of our trained volunteers. That individual will come to your home to ensure that it is a safe environment, to confirm that everyone in the home is on board with adopting a dog, and to discuss any other questions you may have about dog adoption!

Our adoption events are held each weekend. A schedule of times and locations can be found at www.luckydoganimalrescue.org.
