GENERAL NEEDS A FOREVER HOME!!!!
Come meet General and other great adoptable dogs this Sunday (Nov. 10) from 12-3 pm at the Petsmart in Rockville (5154 Nicholson Ln, Kensington, MD 20895)!
Name: General Best Guess for Breed: American Blue Heeler/Cattle Dog mix
Best Guess for Age: 2.5 years as of July 2024 Gender: Male
Approximate Weight: 49 lbs
Gets Along With: Other dogs! We haven't seen him with cats but he can be tested. He has lived with kids in foster ranging from under 2 years of age to 11.
Currently Living At: DC area foster home
Check out this video of General: https://youtu.be/FoIrM_olFNc and https://youtu.be/fnROlL6z82w.
Special Adoption Considerations: General is heartworm positive, but this Lucky Dog got extra lucky! This pup is part of a groundbreaking study we are conducting at our South Carolina Rescue Campus that has the potential to change the way shelters across the United States treat heartworm positive dogs. All dogs in the study are placed at random in either the 2 shot or 3 shot protocol with strictly monitored protocols in place. Four weeks following their final injection, the pups are eligible to transport to the DC area for placement in foster or adoptive care. After treatment concludes, we work with adopters to arrange a free follow up heartworm test after 6 months, followed by a second test at 9 months.
We are happy to discuss this treatment and which phase of the study this Lucky Dog is in right now! Just email the adoption coordinator - the address is at lower left!
General is Looking For: His forever home! Through no fault of his own this handsome cutie landed in the shelter. He's eagerly looking forward to having his own humans once again for romps in the park and all the adventures they can dream up. With that breed mix - yeah, he's going to want plenty of mental and physical enrichment! And he'll want quality kibble and a cushy dog bed. Most of all, though, he wants to know he's safe and loved.
In exchange, he promises to make you laugh - and loyal companionship for all his days. What do you say/ Is General the one you see by your side?
What My Foster Says About Me: General is just a really chill and sweet guy. He's really sweet with my two kids and good on walks/in the house. General is the sweetest dog. He plays gently and naps during the day. Loves belly rubs, hugs, and walks. He’s great on leash and friendly with other dogs. He’s beyond sweet and gentle with our two kids under 2. He can be a bit nervous at times but is warming up and settling into our chaotic home. He’s working on his crate training and wants to be around people!
Lucky Dog cannot guarantee any dog is housebroken. All of our dogs are working on their crate training.
TO ADOPT: The adoption fee for this dog is $475, which includes the cost of routine vetting, including vaccinations, spay/neuter, and heartworm treatment. If you are interested in adopting, please complete the Adoption Questionnaire online at bit.ly/adoptaluckydog
