My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

She’s not scary, she’s sweet. Meet: Honey, a 2 yr old 13 lb terrier mix.

She’s “fun-size” at 13lbs and tolerates being held, snuggled, and carried anywhere. This little girl is likely a Norfolk Terrier, a British working dog, a fearless companion with a spirited, happy, and gentle nature. Honey just wants to love and be loved in return. She is excellent with other dogs (she may growl initially, but she makes friends fast). Honey currently resides with two dogs (medium sized breeds), and she understands and follows the social expectations of the pack. She is incredibly intelligent and learns commands quickly. Honey is entirely potty trained and will likely learn her adoptive family’s system of alerting to be let outside quite quickly. She loves to be outside to lounge in the sun. Honey enjoys walks, but she is not so high energy that she requires extensive walks, just enough for her to get the tree mail and leave a few messages for her neighborhood friends. She is a dream to walk; she doesn’t pull or tug on her lead as she just wants to be right next to you and enjoy the walk. Honey tolerates baths and blow drying, but she might get a little nervous if the blow dryer is too loud (turn down the velocity, and she should be good). Honey doesn’t seem to shed, and she tolerates all grooming activities. She isn’t a fan of kibble as she does prefer wet dog food (she is given Fromm and she loves it). Honey may not readily take treats that are offered as she can be a little selective with the offerings (she does enjoy Fromm Crunchy-Os). She knows how to relax and will find a comfy spot and sleep the day away; she’s a comfort queen. Honey isn’t food-motivated, but she is people-motivated, as in, she wants to make her people happy and proud of her, so this is her main mode of gaining knowledge and skills (i.e., praise). She is a Velcro dog and would love to be anywhere you are, but when left, she will cry for a few minutes and will soothe herself to sleep. Honey would do well in a home where she can get lots of love and affection, where there are comfy spots for her to snuggle, and where she can be her sweet, playful, and gentle little self. Her foster family would like to further add, as seasoned dog owners, this small dog will spoil you, and while they don’t want to jinx themselves, Honey barely, if ever, barks (unless out of play). Honey has been all around downtown Geneva, so she tolerates being out in the community with ease and is so incredibly easy to take anywhere. She tolerates being dolled up in little outfits and everyone fawning all over her. Honey likely had a hard start in life, but you would never know it. This sweet, smart, and resilient girl deserves a home that will absolutely adore her because she will absolutely adore everyone in that home.

Go meet their pets

We are not a shelter. We are a group of pet lovers and advocates who are committed to targeted rescue. Starfish Animal Rescue is a licensed rescue that is run by an all volunteer staff.
Once we rescue a dog or cat, it is placed in one of our foster homes until we are able to find it a suitable home. We are happy to set up an appointment to meet our pets once we receive and review your completed application.

We do our best to process applications quickly but please understand that we are a foster based rescue and that our volunteers work jobs; many are full time. Sending in a completed application is the best way to facilitate this process. You can go on our website www.starfishanimalrescue.com and download an application
Once your application is reviewed, we will put you in contact with the dog's foster family to set up a time to meet the pet of your choice!
Thank you for supporting our rescue and what we are trying to accomplish in southeastern Kentucky.
