Here's what the humans have to say about me:
My name is Sunshine and I’m looking for my forever home. I came to my foster home here in Jonesburg, MO, after I was found on my own and trapped and brought me to a shelter. When nobody claimed me, SIRA rescued me. SIRA guesses that I'm between 3 and 6 y.o., and I weigh 17 lbs. I’m a shy, sweet and still getting used to my new life. I’m a good girl in the house - potty trained and quiet in my kennel when the humans leave the house. I love to explore when it’s quiet. I’m shy , but learning to like affection very much. I love to snuggle in foster mom’s lap on the couch! I ignore the cats here, and I’m good with some other dogs, but not the hyper ones who get in my face. I’ll growl or snap to tell them to back off. I’m a healthy girl - spayed and vaccinated. I had an injury to one back leg that healed on its own before I was rescued. The vet doesn’t recommend any treatment. My front legs are also a bit bowed. But I still run and play – I love to chase the ball outside! But I am not a fan of stairs. I won’t go down stairs on my own and I’m pretty nervous going up, but my foster parents pick me up and give me a ride. My ideal forever home would be one-story with a lot of carpet, which feels more secure to walk on than hard floors. I’d be fine with cats or with a laid-back dog who will give me space. I haven’t met any human kids, but foster mom says they’d terrify me. I’d love to have a securely fenced yard to play in. I’m learning how to go for leash walks, but still get nervous. Loud noises and sudden movements spook me, so a calm and patient family would be ideal. Shibas can be escape-artists. My forever family should be extra-careful that I never get loose (many dogs who have been trapped, won’t enter a trap again). They should be careful opening doors and always harnessed and leashed when not in a securely fenced yard. If you live in the Midwest and are interested in a pretty, snuggly, shy little ray of Sunshine in your life, visit www.savingshibas.com/adopt to apply to become an approved SIRA adopter. The application process helps SIRA make sure we’ll be a good match. Once approved, they’ll introduce you to my foster mom so we can meet!
