My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.

Thank you for stopping by to see me!  Please fill out an application to set up  a private meeting.

Paws

Hi.  My name is Ronnie.  I am a laid back and sweet male Frenchie, really the most perfect gentleman if I do say so myself! I really love my people and want to be near them all the time - some would say I am a Velcro dog, but I would say that I am 25 pounds of love! I love to follow them everywhere - if the resident dogs get too close to my people, I push my way in – but not in a mean way.  After all I am a French gentleman.  I can sometimes get protective of the people I choose and guard them to keep them for myself.  A child free home would be best for me as that commotion gives me a bit of anxiety as I try too hard to control them.  I'd do best in a home as an only pup and have my forever person all to myself, so I do not need to have another dog living with me as long as my people are home quite a bit of the time. If you do have other pups, they'd be best if submissive because I am an alpha guy in the pecking order.  I have learned how to nap on dog beds and have been caught snuggling in together with the other pups!

I love treats and have learned how much fun toys are. I walk great on a leash so I don’t need a fence in my forever home. I don't like that crate thing all that much and voice my discontent. Because of that, shared walls are not ideal because apparently neighbors don't appreciate things like that.  The humans here leave me out while they are gone and I just rest until they return.  I really do prefer to sleep on the sofa or find a warm spot in the sun.  My ideal home would be one where the humans are home during the day.  You see, I've been bounced around a lot in my life and what I really need is consistency and someone to not give up on me. The first few days/weeks when change happens, it makes me nervous that you are going to leave me forever and I show some separation anxiety. But, once we get that schedule down and you tell me you're my pack leader, then I will start to trust that you will never leave me. I'm a very loyal guy who sadly has not a lot of consistency in my life outside my foster home.  So, if you worked from home and were a bit of a home body, or could take me with you to work or on adventures, that would be just perfect!

I am potty trained and know what "outside" means so that helps me know what is expected.  I also know "sit" and am working on "stay" - so I'm a smart guy! I also don’t mind car rides and would love to go to work with you if given the chance.

I love to snuggle and sleep with foster mom at night.  Foster mom says I am a goofy boy who is still learning how to be a dog.  All I need is a loving forever home to help me become the best dog I can be.

*Bulldogs are a member of the Brachycephalic breed and therefore have a host of health issues that may arise.  Because these dogs are new into our rescue, health issues in the future may arise that we are not aware of.  Some of these issues are allergies, eye issues, yeast infections, interdigital cysts, slipped disks in their back, breathing problems, among a host of others that can occur at any time or when seasons change. While breed experience is not required, we encourage you to thoroughly research the breed and its financial, medical, and environmental needs to be sure the breed is a good fit for you and your family.  It is estimated that the average bulldog owner spends $2,000 per year on medical needs.  In addition to normal pre adoption surgeries, Tyler also had surgery on his nares and soft palate to improve the quality of his breathing. This is reflected within his adoption fee.

Bulldogs are one of the most expensive dogs to own, maintain, and rescue and our adoption fees reflect such expenses.  The application process for bulldogs usually moves quite quickly as they are a popular breed, so we ask that adopters do research and be prepared for adoption at the time you submit your application.  They are happy, goofy, playful characters and we are excited you are taking the first steps into rescuing one!

This dog requires an application fee.  This fee must be paid within 24 hours or your application will be considered void.    We will not review or contact applicants that have not completed the payment portion. Bulldog Applications will be responded to within 5 business days, after receipt of the application fee.  Please understand that paying the fee does not guarantee you will be approved to adopt the bulldog. Our goal is place bulldogs in homes that are suited for their individual needs. You may be willing and able to provide a great home, but if it doesn’t meet the specific needs of the bulldog, we will not approve your application.

Please note that some of our dogs are obtained from shelters, surrendered to our care, or released from breeders.  Each animal's bio is based on our experience of the animal within our care, an educated guess based on physical characteristics, temperament and information shared. Some of the animals come from situations where they are lacking experience in a home and confidence in humans. In turn, they require another companion dog and/or a fenced in yard in their forever home in order for them to feel safe. If you are interested in a particular dog whose bio states those needs and do not currently have them, please understand that your home might not be the right fit.  Please use the filter on our Adoptable Dogs page to find the perfect match for your home.

ADOPTION EVENTS:

Adoption events are updated at the top of each dogs animals' as their foster home signs up. Check back for updates on which events they will be attending. If an event is not listed within their bio above, the animal is not planning to attend.  Please understand that all of our pets are in volunteer foster homes and sometimes "life" happens and the foster family cannot make it to their scheduled adoption event. If you are traveling from a far distance to meet a specific animal, please understand we cannot guarantee event attendance. We recommend filling out an application and we will set up a private appointment. Private appointments are only scheduled after an application is submitted and approved.

ADOPTION PROCEDURE:

The first step in our process is to complete an online adoption application on our website:
Note: In most circumstances Underdog Rescue will only adopt within 60 miles of Minneapolis, MN.
All of our foster animals can be seen by appointment with an approved adoption application. Contact us at http://www.underdogrescuemn.com/contact-us/ if you have further questions.

FOSTER CARE:

All of our animals are fostered in individual homes or doggie daycare facilities. While they are in our care, they are part of our families and given lots of love. We work on training, crate-training and socialization prior to adoption, but each bio is written by the foster as they see them, in their home. Each animal's behavior is evaluated and we have a sense of its temperament and personality, but it cannot be guaranteed. We look for adopters who will give each animal the wonderful life and permanent home that he or she deserves in time and with patience.  If you have an interest and ability to be a foster home, please visit our website  www.underdogrescuemn.com/foster-applications  and fill out a foster application.

NUTRITION:

Nutrition is vital to the rehabilitation and life-long health of our pets.  All of our foster animals are fed a premium diet such as NutriSource, Canidae, Orijen, Nature's Variety, Fromm, Pure Vita, Stella and Chewy's, Primal, or balanced raw diet.  All adopters are required to continue providing premium diets for the life of the animal.

Additional adoption info

Step one is making sure you read through all of the information provided at https://underdogrescuemn.com/adoptionprocess/ and on our FAQ’s page before applying.

Step two begins after your application has been submitted. Our coordinators will review your application to ensure that you and the pet you are applying for is a good match. The application is where you get to tell us about yourself! Please answer the questions thoroughly. We look at all of the details and then weigh those details with what we know the dogs need. For example, many of our dogs come from commercial breeding facilities. Some of those dogs have a little trouble adjusting to life in a new home, so they require another dog to teach them “how to be a dog”. Not all of our dogs have this need, but some do, and that’s something we will take into consideration.

You will receive a response from us, via email, within 1-3 business days.

*Please note, puppy applications require one week review time and payment of the application fee.

If you are considering adopting one of our pets, keep in mind that we have several policies regarding placement.

We only adopt to homes within 60 miles of Minneapolis, Minnesota.
Only on a case by case basis do we place female dogs in homes with current female dogs.
We will not place our pets in homes with unaltered animals.
We have a strict NO DECLAW policy, where adopters must agree to never declaw adopted cats. For more information on declawing and its alternatives, please visit www.declawing.com
We have a lifetime commitment to our animals, all adopters must agree to return their pets to us if placement is not deemed successful.
We strongly encourage continued socialization and formal obedience training for all dogs under the age of eight.
If you have children younger than 5 years, and do not already have a canine in your home, understand that adding a dog or cat will be like adding a permanent 2 year old to your responsibilities. For this reason, we will only place our pets in homes with children younger than 5 on a case-by-case basis. Keep in mind that completing an adoption contract means you understand that all adoption fees are non-refundable.

Go meet their pets

Our dogs are available to meet at our adoption events. As fosters RSVP to events, we will update the dog’s profile to reflect those events. However, sometimes “life happens” and fosters are unable to make it, or unable to RSVP ahead of time. We recommend attending events and meeting our pets to find the right one to match your home and lifestyle.

If you are serious about an individual pet on our website, please read about our Adoption Process, and complete an application. Upon approval, a private meet and greet may be scheduled.

We do not schedule private meetings until you have applied and been approved to meet the individual pet.
