SALEM is currently being fostered in TEXAS.
Salem is approximately three years old and 8.2 pounds.
She is a blue and tan chi, a rare color. Her coat is sparse which is typical of this color pattern as they often have alopecia. She was also covered in fleas, ticks, and poorly cared for. We are not sure which of these have caused the thinning of her coat however, she does not have any sores or open wounds on her body. She does NOT have mange and is not contagious. Her coat may or may not grow in better/thicker.
Salem is from a terrible dog hoarding situation where there was over 100 dogs on a property in Caldwell county. The home and property that these dogs lived on has been completely demolished. The owner passed away leaving over 100 dogs. This was a huge rescue mission from both the city along with several rescues throughout the entire state of Texas. We only had space and resources to take four of the dogs from this particular situation, Salem being one of them.
She is timid, shy, scared and nervous but not feral. She lets me pick her up now but that took about a week. She doesn't bite or growls and we have yet to hear her bark.
She poops sometimes when she is very scared or a stranger picks her up.
She will run away from you if she does not know you and will try to hide.
She does NOT do well on leash and harness so she will need a home with a fenced in yard or someone willing to put up a pen for her to potty until she learns to walk on leash and harness.
Salem does not have a mean bone in her body. She gets along so well with all other dogs and cats. She does enjoy human company although she is a little timid at first we can tell she very much wants to give and receive love.
When she is sitting in her bed, I will sit next to her, pet her and talk to her. She will stay there and start to loosen up after a little while and become calmer and enjoy being pet.
She lets me pick her up but still cowers a bit and does initiate being picked up, held or pet.
She follows us around everywhere and every day she emotionally heals a little more. I can’t even imagine the trauma that this poor little dog has been through at such a young age. She is a beautiful girl with a beautiful soul and a sad story to tell.
Luckily, with a little love and patience I know we can make her future so much brighter and I know she will be the love of someone’s life. She has a lot of love to give inside of her. We can just tell.
She needs a quiet home. No small children please.
