My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.

Laverne had a chance to foster for a few days during the hurricane.  This is what the family had to say about her:
Laverne is best described as a sweetheart. We fell for her beautiful eyes, goofy personality, and big energy. She does great in the car and will curl on her seat until you’ve arrived to your destination. She is easily motivated by treats and is eager to learn tricks. Laverne is great around other dogs and loves to play and run outside. She is not food aggressive and loves to be pet, hugged and kissed. She also did fantastic in the crate, and often walked inside without much of our effort! We enjoyed seeing her zoomies around the house, as well as cuddling on the couch at night.
We took her into a room with 2 cats that are crated.  Those cats lived with a dog and told they liked the dog.  Laverne did not even notice the cats or tried to smell them.  Then one cat made a loud MEOW and Laverne finally looked over at it.  She sniffed the crate but then went on doing her own thing. So we think she may do well with a cat as long as the cat was used to a dog.
Laverne and Shirley were surrendered to PRBJ when the owners moved out and left them behind in an apartment and the landlord needed help with them.

New puppy parents must be dedicated to obedience, socialization and potty training to ensure the pup grows up to be a happy and well-adjusted dog. We recommend the ENTIRE family attend puppy training classes. This ensures that all family member are using the same commands and techniques.

Please note a fenced yard is preferred for this baby to romp and safely play.

More about this rescue

We are a private, non-profit rescue located in Sanford, Florida, dedicated to the rescue cats and dogs. Many of them come to us with medical needs. They are doctored to the best of our ability and resources.

Our most urgent goal is to rescue animals that are abandoned or in distress, update their vaccines, and find good new homes for them. But we attempt to be more proactive than that. It is our heartfelt desire to prevent any animal from the need to be "rescued." With that vision in mind, we take a three-prong approach through the education of pet owners and the general public about:
- proper care of animals, including correct diet of good quality food, fresh clean water, daily exercise, and lots of love
- spaying and neutering companion animals (dogs and cats) in order to prevent euthanasia and over-population
- low-cost spay/neuter clinics and wellness centers in their local community
