Jupiter was scheduled to be euthanized on June 18th, 2024. He was just 10 months old - a sweet puppy, full of joy and wonder, and he hadn't done anything wrong. He was about to become a casualty of a society that backyard-breeds dogs and dumps "leftover" puppies, or buys dogs on a whim and then leaves them at overcrowded shelters at the first mild inconvenience. Animal Aid got Jupiter just in time -- he's safe here with us, but he really needs a home of his own! We thought we had found that for him, but unfortunately, things didn't work out, and Jupiter's back. Jupiter is a one-year-old Shepherd Mix -- a big, bouncy, healthy, happy boy. He has energy! He wants to PLAY! Jupiter was fabulous in the home -- house trained, not destructive, snuggly and loving, excellent with the adopter's other dog -- but he had too much energy for his adopter, and the adopter didn't have time to work with that or train him. It's just frustrating -- Jupiter has SO much potential! All the raw materials are there -- intelligence, a desire to please, great social skills with humans and dogs! Jupiter just needs someone who'll take the time to teach him how to be a dog in the world -- how to manage his energy and relax when it's time to calm down. If all goes well and you decide to pursue adoption, you will be asked to complete a pre-adopt. Once your family, including any dogs, have also met with the dog you wish to adopt, your application will be submitted to the Adoption Committee for review. We estimate the pre-adoption process can take up to 14 days or longer.
Please note: AAS is committed to finding the best fit for each of our dogs. For this reason, we will accept multiple applications for a dog. In the case of multiple applications, we will select the applicant that is the best fit based on the needs of the dog.
Adoption fee for puppy/adult dogs is $300.00.
Adoption fee for senior dogs is $150.00.
Dogs qualify as a senior based on their stature/weight and age. The scale below shows the age at which a dog attains “senior” designation:
0-20 lbs: 11 years
21-50: 10 years
51-90: 8 years
91+: 7 years

The purpose of the Society shall be to provide to/and or for animals, other than man, shelter, medical aid, care and protection, to act as a placement agency for animals in good health, and to provide education for the humane care and treatment of animals, and to attempt to prevent cruelty to animals. We are a nonprofit organization that receives no funding from state or federal agencies. All of the funds required to maintain the shelter and care for the dogs come from donations and special fund-raising events. Donations to the shelter are tax deductible.
Our dogs are not euthanized for space. This means that new dogs can only be accepted by the shelter when we have an available kennel.
