Zara is a sweet, petite 2.5 year old female Dutch Shepherd who absolutely loves, loves, LOVES her person! Zara was picked up as a stray in Southern Connecticut and resided in a shelter for close to a year, which left her with a bit of a fear of the world around her. Despite that, she has really come out of her shell and learned that the world is not such a scary place and humans are capable of giving her the love she craves! This snuggle bug would do well in an active family where she has an outlet for her energy, which she's got plenty of. However, this sweet girl has an off switch and will gladly snuggle with you as well! One of Zara's favorite activities is being brushed - she will sit there as long as you have the stamina to keep brushing her beautiful brindle coat.
Zara is not too keen on other dogs, but can coexist with them as long as introductions are slow. She's learning that other dogs can be fun, too, and was even spotted playing tug with one, but she has some resource guarding tendencies due to the length of time she was in the shelter. Zara is crate trained, though she's not a huge fan of it, and muzzle trained as well. She is untested with cats, but seems to like kids that are willing to let her warm up to them - then she will snuggle until the cows come home.
If you would like to further inquire on this animal, please fill out an adoption application. Applications that are completed through our approval process and are being considered as a match will speak to the foster home to gain more information about our adoptable dogs.
