Ty is a sweet, playful boy who had a difficult start at life. He was deserted by his family and picked up by PG County Shelter. There he quickly contracted kennel cough and was in isolation for weeks until he healed. He DID heal, only to be put on the urgent list at risk for euthanasia within a week. He was rescued and brought home with foster mom a mere 3 hours before his scheduled euthanasia. The first thing his foster noticed is that Ty is very quiet. He rarely barks or growls, and whines softly and briefly when he is protesting something. He LOVES riding in the car, especially with the window down. He is a fantastic co-pilot, very polite and respectful in the car.

Ty enjoys a sniffy walk through the woods or a field on a long lead and is super gracious about checking in with his human as he explores. He doesn’t want to get too far away from his person. Ty leads with his nose, like a bloodhound, and would be great with scent work! He knows ‘sit’ and ‘lay’ perfectly, doing them on his own in certain situations. He also knows ‘down’ but picks and chooses when he wants to obey that one. He would benefit from consistent training, as he is very toy and food motivated but sometimes has a mind of his own and shows a bit of resource guarding with his beloved toys and food.

Ty is really tolerant of grooming, especially with a PB lick mat in the bathtub! He does have allergies (to what, still unclear) but does well on his salmon and brown rice kibble. Needs a slow feeder because he eats fast. Ty takes medicine really easily; he just eats it like it is a snack. He doesn’t enjoy ear drops (who does?) but doesn’t give much trouble. His typical day is to wake up early, eat breakfast then head out on a walk to sniff around the neighborhood. He spends his day gnawing on a Kong or a very tough rubber ball (ideally with treats, but the gnawing itself is what he loves), and take a nap. After napping, he enjoys more time outside playing fetch or walking, then a car ride to Starbucks for a pup cup! Another snooze before dinner, then a hearty dinner with a side of carrots or apples. After dinner he enjoys more ball gnawing, or a game of tug-o-war, gnawing on the rope, and then wind down with a nice snuggle with his human (he doesn’t really like to be on a couch). Then a final pee break and into his crate for a full night of sleep.

More about this rescue

LOVEPAWS was founded as an animal intake prevention program to help keep pets in homes and out of shelters. To do this, we offer various types of assistance to pet owners including our pet food pantry and our re-homing service. We help find new homes for pets whose owners cannot keep them but do not want to surrender their pet to the shelter. While our focus is on Prince George’s County, MD, we offer these services to the entire DC Metro area.

Our scope and mission has grown quickly since we were founded in 2019 and we now pull dogs and cats from open-admission, high-intake shelters in MD, VA and other Southern states. This has expanded our rescue to be able to save dogs and cats of all breeds. Our expanded mission is to save the lives of abandoned dogs and cats and place them in loving and permanent homes. While we are a non-breed-specific rescue, we are a pittie-friendly rescue that has a soft spot for the pit bulls at the Prince George’s County animal shelter. They face the heartbreaking reality of the county’s pit bull ban which makes them unavailable for adoption to the public. We are committed to stepping forward whenever we can and wherever there is the greatest need.

LOVEPAWS is a registered 501(c)(3) non-profit organization. We are an exclusively foster-based rescue with our foster network spanning MD, DC, and VA.
