Jose Antonio was rescued from the side of the highway. He was very timid but has been slowly coming out of his shell as his rescuer has been working to gain his trust. Jose Antonio has been checked out by a vet, treated for parasites, vaccinated, and neutered. He is also taking some medication for high kidney and liver enzymes, but he should be 100% healthy very soon. Jose Antonio is a very sweet boy who just needs a loving family!

Defensa Animal de Puerto Rico is a Puerto Rico-based nonprofit working to help the dogs, cats and horses on the island by:

- Lowering the number of dogs, cats and horses that are injured, un-owned or neglected by providing adoption marketing and financial assistance for vet services
- Increasing the rate of sterilization of all cats and dogs and castration of stallions/horses
- Taking in, rehabilitating and rehoming unwanted, injured or abandoned horses

For dogs, cats, pigs, birds, etc., Defensa relies on foster homes. For horse rescue, Defensa utilizes donated land.
