Petey came into rescue a few days ago. His foster mom had found him living in a lady's kitchen and they wanted to find him a home so his foster took him, hoping he would be a good fit. Petey had not had much training living by himself in a kitchen with very little interaction so he was a bit of a handful and did not have any training. His fosters worked with him but they decided he was too much dog for them with his energy level. He also started wanting to dominate their other dog and that was causing problems, as well. Although they had fallen in love with him, had gotten him neutered and provided him with love and training, they decided that Petey needed a family with more energy for the young dog who was learning a whole new world(like a new puppy). Petey is a love and he learns quickly. He can be a bit timid initially but once he feels safe, he settles down. He was alittle overwhelmed when he first met all of the dogs and showed teeth but within 30 minutes, he was fine and has been playing with the little dogs. Larger dogs may make him nervous.Petey should do fine with older kids who can respect his space and with cats, although we don't have any cats but he doesn't seem like he would go after them. He mostly enjoys laying around with his people and being a velcro dog from what his foster mom said. He thrives on companionship and cuddles. He will make a wonderful companion!
Petey saw the vet on 10/18/24 and was found to have no issues on his exam. He also tested negative on his heartworm test but was positive on his fecal for hookworms so we have given him a Drontal to treat the hooks. He may need a follow up in 3 weeks. Petey weighed 14.2 pounds as of 10/18/24.
If interested in giving Petey his forever home, please submit your interest and your adoption application via email or text ONLY to 352-215-3260 (phone calls will not be answered or returned from this number). Petey's adoption fee will be $300 to help cover the cost of his vetting and daily care while with us. We will only consider applicants who complete the adoption application and will determine whether the applicant would be a good fit for Petey based on the info provided in the application. If we feel that you will be a good match for him, we will set up a meet and greet appointment with you

More about this rescue
We are a small rescue started in September 2004. To date, we have adopted out over 1,000 dogs and cats who may not have had a second chance. We rescue the majority of our pets from kill shelters and have them thoroughly vetted prior to going to their new homes. All of our pets are spayed/neutered, vaccinated, heartworm checked(dogs) and dewormed. We also microchip our dogs so that they can always find their way home. Big and small, we work to rehome them all. We are always in need of donations so if you can help us to help our pets, please contact us! The more people who get involved, the more pets that we can save! You can also see our pets and/or fill out our adoption application on www.petfinder.com. We look forward to hearing from you and making that "forever match"!
